General Summary

This position is accountable for assisting with the implementation and maintenance of multiple Areas, Large Projects, or a Region Quality Management system including; QC Plan, laboratory accreditation, QC/QA project management and supporting technical staff. This position requires an advanced course of study and the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in analyzing and interpreting information before making reasoned recommendations.

Essential Job Accountabilities
1.Implement Quality Management System to ensure construction and materials meet quality standards by analyzing and interpreting testing results.
2.Analyze customer and project requirements and internal cost structure to develop project budgets. Further management support includes overseeing the billing and work order process to ensure project profitability is achieved.
3.Evaluate laboratory programs and testing protocols and make recommendations in order to facilitate state and national lab accreditation programs. Review and analyze Technician and Inspector certification requirements and evaluate compliance.
4.Support projects by analyzing project data and communicating recommended courses of action, including the propriety of obtaining third-party verification of testing results. Further support projects by interpreting Granite internal and owner/agency requirements and preparing quality control plans. Evaluate project requirements and use quality control software to prepare tracking databases designed to ensure satisfactory project completion.
5.Supervise technical staff to ensure compliance with quality programs. Evaluate Technician and Inspector performance and assist management with job performance coaching. Evaluate vendor performance including services provided by third-party engineering firms.
6.Perform professional engineering services for operations (including stamping/sealing) in accordance with the Granite PE Stamping Policy and applicable State Statutes, if licensed.
7.Apply substantive expertise during pre-bid, construction, and post construction phases of a project by working with plants/materials, construction, sales and estimating teams to ensure quality standards and project profitability are achieved. Evaluate proposed courses of action for safety, contract compliance, and profitability and propose alternative courses of action where appropriate.
8.Provide training for QC Engineer Level I and to other technical Quality Management staff.
9.Assist with customer service issues to ensure customer satisfaction levels are maintained
10. Participate in and promote Granite's safety procedures to promote a safe working environment including compliance with OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations.

Education/Certification

  • BS in Engineering or related field required

  • Registered Professional Engineer desired

Work Experience

  • 4 years required

  • Title and compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

General Summary This position is responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting construction materials or elements in a laboratory or field setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications. Level II technicians must satisfy one of the following standards: (1) test, sample and inspect one construction material or element in both a laboratory and field setting; or (2) test, sample and inspect two construction materials or elements in either a lab or field setting. * The QC Technician Level II position description may be superseded by wage classification(s) in local collective bargaining agreements. Essential Job Accountabilities 1. Ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications by collecting and preparing construction material samples. Level II technicians either: (1) test, sample and inspect one construction material in both a laboratory and field setting; or (2) test, sample and inspect two construction materials in either a lab or field setting. Construction materials include soil, aggregate, hot mix asphalt (HMA) and Portland cement concrete (PCC). 2. Perform quality control testing on at least one construction material in both a lab and field setting or test two construction materials in either a lab or field setting. 3. Perform inspections on one of the above construction materials in both a lab and field setting or test two construction materials in either a lab or field setting. 4. Train level I technicians on sampling, testing and inspection of construction materials to prepare them for additional certification. 5. Prepare and communicate testing and inspection results to supervisors to ensure quality control standards are satisfied and process changes can be implemented. 6. Participate in and promote Granite's safety procedures to promote a safe working environment. 7.
