The job focus of the Houston Supply Chain QA Food Safety Manager is to support the Houston Retail Support Center (Warehouse/Transportation), electronic fulfillment centers (eFC), and 3PL warehouses to ensure the freshness and food safety.

As a QA Supply Chain Manager, you'll ensure H-E-B food safety programs and standards are in place for assigned warehouses, distribution facilities, eFCs, and transportation vehicles. You'll assess facilities, training partners, and address problems to ensure compliance with H-E-B and government standards. This work is critical to ensuring customer satisfaction and brand protection.

We are looking for:- a bachelor's degree or higher in food science / related field- experience in food safety, Quality Management, auditing in manufacturing, warehousing, or transportation- demonstrated knowledge and application of food safety and quality management principles-a desire to help others be successful in implementing food safety programs and build a culture of food safety- Work on-site at our Houston Distribution Center

What is the work?Food Safety / Compliance / Auditing:- Ensures assigned facilities meet government rules and H-E-B standards for food safety, food quality.

  • Ability to work and collaborate with operations partners and leaders to address opportunities; ensures effective immediate response, short-term corrections, and long-term preventive solutions are established; leads/interacts with government investigators and auditors effectively- Complies with department standards; trains / influences others outside of the department to follow food safety standards; provides input for improving standards- Ensures assigned facilities meet FSMA-SFTA regulations; ensures protocols within QMS are established and trained; communicates short-falls and negative trends; applies FSMA rules and communicates them to others

  • Conducts audits; follows up on corrections and corrective actions to ensure compliance; takes immediate action on critical, unsafe, non-compliant issues; understands / coaches/trains on company standards and safety QMS- Plans / communicates/conducts weekly verification audits based on QMS procedures and standards; writes accurate, unbiased reports; issues corrective action requests for assessment findings; communicates assessment reports to stakeholders; manages corrective action process to ensure successful closeout of corrective action requests- Applies understanding of / educates others / holds them accountable on the importance of compliance with personal hygiene standards and their importance to food safety- Applies understanding of proper temperature monitoring to protect food safety and quality of products; assesses if temperatures are sufficient and ensures adherence to the temperature monitoring program (facilities/transportation trailers); conducts investigations / determines proper disposition of products when out-of-tolerance temperatures occur- Ensures vendors comply with contract requirements; builds relationships with vendors to increase communication, trust, and cooperation; addresses vendor issues and issues where H-E-B could better support the vendor; understands facility trends/service levels; works closely with facility POCs to ensure engagement and support of vendor findings/requests- Works with assigned third-party warehouses to ensure compliance with government standards for food safety and H-E-B standards for product quality; ensures adequate controls are in place for Integrated Pest Control- Follows all QMS procedures, standards, and guidelines; ensures standardization of processes and assessments; may be involved in developing/writing/updating QMS; applies knowledge of / trains others on SF360 and other electronic systems related to QMS, and QMS procedures/standards- Works to prevent pest infestations at assigned facilities; works closely with IPM vendor for effective prevention/reaction; learns pest trends/seasonality; communicates to leadership when pests are discovered or upward trends are identified; ensures timely corrective actions; walks with IPM vendor at least quarterly; communicates needs/concerns to Facility Leaders and SCQA Leader- Assesses Master Sanitation Program to ensure full implementation; coaches on / holds Partners and third-party supervisors accountable for sanitation and contractual obligations; works closely with chemical vendor representatives to ensure sanitation program and vendor services are effective and meet business needs; follows up on issues / corrective actions- Actively participates in department/facility meetings; provides presentations / verbal communications to QA, W&T Operations, and other stakeholders as needed- Builds strong, collaborative, working relationships with assigned facilities leaders, Partners, and vendors; establishes relationships with local regulatory agents where possible; interacts confidently and influentially with QA Partners to promote efficiencies and end-to-end supply chain controls- Stays committed to continuous learning/development of personal skills and naturally curious about industry trends and emerging issues; encourages others to develop skills continually; stays apprised of current / proposed regulations that affect assigned business categories- Assist in trainings and implementation of current GFSI Scheme to ensure adequate operational execution.

What is your background?- Bachelor's degree in food science or related

  • Master's / graduate degree (preferred)- 7+ years of operations experience in manufacturing, warehousing, or transportation- 3+ years of experience in food safety, QM, and auditing (preferred)- 2+ years of experience in quality systems auditing (preferred for Rotation Program)- Experience in QA in manufacturing, warehousing, or transportation- Experience in retail (preferred)- ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified HACCP Auditor (CQHA), and Certified Quality Manager (CQM); industry-specific certifications / training based on areas of responsibility; Six Sigma training; training in U.S. Food Law (preferred)
