The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely receipt of products in compliance with import laws and regulations applicable to the Learning Without Tears (LWT) products. Coordinates with domestic and international vendors to develop prototypes for new product ideation, and mass production.
Temporary position: May 2020 - August 2020
Research new suppliers and strategize with Sr. Printing & Planning Specialist when building new products based on LWT objectives.
Work with relevant groups on the design, prototype, and testing for existing and new products, acting as liaison between product development and vendors.
Contact vendors to obtain competitive pricing, applicable terms and efficient timelines to propose the best option for each project, product or materials.
Coordinate factory audits and inspections of potential international vendors.
Negotiate costs, payment terms, and timelines.
Build and maintain excellent and productive vendor relationships through plant visits and daily communication via email and telephone.
Order, test, and coordinate inspections by supervising the logistics and communications with overseas vendors.
Create purchase orders and contracts to ensure vendor acknowledgment of specifications, cost and delivery.
Coordinate testing of products with overseas vendors in compliance with all US Federal Regulations (CPSIA).
Actively work to reduce cost of goods sold on all products.
Maintain knowledge of and compliance to current U.S. federal import and state regulations, such as anti-dumping, stuffed toy registration, etc.
Maintain tracking system for imported products; handle all U.S. compliance and customs-related issues; and follow-up with vendors for scheduling to ensure timely delivery of all orders.
Maintain productive working relationships with freight forwarder(s) and customs broker(s), while utilizing online systems as provided
Proactively seek opportunities to consolidate shipments through FCL or LCL.
Monitor and resolve purchase order, receiving, and invoicing issues.
Respond to quality problems of incoming materials and communicate those with suppliers.
Create and maintain product specification sheets.
Communicate weekly to the Inventory team on products arriving at warehouse(s); as well as maintaining HTS (Harmonized Tariff System) numbers to assist in shipping documentation for export of products from warehouse(s).
Renew and evaluate the Customs bond to ensure that the amount is enough for our yearly imports.
B.A. or B.S. in Business or related field or equivalent work experience.
4+ years' experience in purchasing with 2+ years importing experience preferred.
Knowledge of U.S. Federal, state, and customs regulations preferred.
