Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Manager to join the Building Control Systems Team in Carlsbad, CA. The Purchasing Manager is a highly visible position with responsibility to provide results-driven leadership to the Purchasing department. As the Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for the processes and metrics that ensure continuity of supply. You will develop, mentor, and work closely with the Buyers, Planners, and Supply Chain Analysts; you will be responsible for managing the purchasing life cycle. You will work closely with the Supply Chain Manager, Director of Operations, and VP of Operations on supplier negotiations and cost reduction opportunities.
What Will You Do?
Owns all purchasing activities through development of procurement strategies, contract negotiations, management and support of new product launches for purchased product, driving cost saving initiatives, and development an effective purchasing organization in partnership with the Sr. Supply Chain Manager
Trains and develops a team of Purchasing talent, including active management of team performance
Responsible for the purchase of materials for inventory and non-inventory related requirements; ensures inventory goals are met while supporting material requirements for production
Plans and executes purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and RFQs with a strong emphasis on timeliness and accuracy; expedites materials and resolves issues as necessary
Reviews overdue purchase orders and ensures suppliers are contacted to established revised delivery, ERPs are updated, and appropriate departments are notified of any significant delays
Researches, understands, and recommends strategies on improving the purchasing policies and procedures; develops and drives opportunities to eliminate waste from the purchasing process
Identifies and qualifies vendors; studies and evaluates proposals; and negotiates material costs, terms and discovers new sources Develops and maintains sound relationships with all external stakeholders Builds and maintains positive relationships with suppliers and business partners Conducts frequent meetings with domestic and international suppliers to ensure that open issues are resolved Understands and reports on supplier capacity and capability Reviews and provides suppliers with a 12-month moving forecast Partners with Sourcing to develop procurement strategies Partners with Operations and Quality to perform supplier reviews
Conducts analysis of all price change information Ensures all price changes are processed according to policy Researches, understands, and recommends strategies on improving policies and procedures Identifies cost savings opportunities.
Develops and maintains strong partnerships with all internal stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering, Product Marketing, and Customer Service Responds to Customer Service inquiries, such as availability of product Partners with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies and ensure stability of account
Studies market prices and trends. Participates in physical inventory and cycle count programs, as needed. Some travel required. Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Strong organizational and time management skills and close attention to detail.
Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to new opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in negotiation and influencing skills
Exceptional computer skills, extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and data base software, proficiency with various e-mail, calendaring, meeting management, and related communications software
Highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment
Must have working knowledge of supply chain management techniques.
Strong negotiating skills.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and understanding of design and quality requirements as they relate to components and assemblies
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and the Kanban system.
Experience in a highly technical and regulated industry
Strong analytical skills and proven ability to effectively research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated and proven ethical behavior, as a purchasing professional
