Purchasing Intern

York, PA


The Purchasing Internship position provides an opportunity for students to experience the chain of processes, parts, materials and vendors coordination in order to supply finished products for the Voith Turbo customers.The intern in this role will be trained on Sourcing, procurement and several tasks related to business software such as Microsoft Office, Navision and business intelligence portals.


  • Conducting Spend Analytics and Market Intelligence (supply/demand, pricing trends, risks, etc.).

  • Assist with sourcing new supplier for products assigned.

  • Assist with supplier management including regular manufacturing follow-ups and status updates

  • Assist with Supplier Monitoring, including reviewing Supplier On-Time on daily basis, processing and submitting monthly purchasing team / supplier performance reports

  • Assist with the handling of Non-Conforming Material, including notifying and processing of rejected material for return to supplier.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Student currently enrolled in classes leading to a degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, economics or business administration.

Works independently and exercises independent judgment and discretion. Requires project management skills and knowledge of statistical analysis, spreadsheet and other software programs. Administers/coordinates programs, projects and/or processes as assigned, and may act as a liaison between executive leadership and SCM project teams during report-outs. This position supports Purchased Services projects. Duties and Responsibilities: 1 Monitors and maintains records of Purchased Services VAT initiatives, tracks and validates utilization. 2 Coordinate Purchased Services initiatives by gathering data, market research, assisting with RFPs, meeting with stakeholders, and keeping initiatives on task. 3 Ensures that all project plans are developed and executed using methodology consistent with System performance improvement. 4 Monitors savings and improvements from projects, ensuring savings calculations are accurate and savings resulting from project successes are properly allocated. 5 Provides project management support to VAT members, and Purchased Services related projects. 6 Develops and reports VAT summaries for report to Value Analysis Steering Committee and Performance Council. 7 Proactively reviews industry trends and benchmarks. Internal benchmark variance and industry trend differences are highlighted and reported to ensure strategies and project executions have been and remain successful. 8 Monitors outcomes related to Purchased Services VAT initiatives. 9 Enters and/or retrieves data for established projects using various computer software applications. 10 Administers/coordinates programs, projects, and/or processes within the Supply Chain as assigned.
