Job Purpose

Develops and implements strategic purchasing objectives across US and China locations. Oversees purchasing operations required to support all aspects of Graco's global sourcing strategy. This includes, but is not limited to, supplier selection and development, material cost control, supplier quality improvement and supplier delivery performance.

Essential Duties

  • Oversee and implement global sourcing strategies to support corporate and divisional objectives, providing Graco a competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies and services.

  • Develop a consolidated supplier base to support continuous improvement in quality, cost and delivery objectives.

  • Develop a world-class team of purchasing professionals.

  • Negotiate and implement supplier plans, contracts, and agreements in accordance with Graco's objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Provide leadership and direction for Sourcing and Commodity Managers in negotiations and the structuring of agreements.

  • Understand, track and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors that may affect the Company's ability to meet its objectives and develop contingency options.

  • Develop, implement and maintain department policies and procedures to reflect best practices and meet Graco's corporate policies and procedures.

  • Manage and report the status of projects and programs.

  • Support acquisition active as needed.

  • Establish and implement methods and best practices related to system advancement opportunities that drive efficiency and support cost savings initiatives

  • Proactively work with Production, Engineering, Distribution, Quality Assurance, Sales & Marketing, Finance and Supplier to drive and sustain excellent service performance

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education/Certifications

  • 4-year college degree in Business, Engineering or Materials Management
  • CPM and MBA preferred

Experience

  • 10 plus years global purchasing or relevant business experience with progressive responsibilities and strong cross-commodity experience

  • Prior management experience

Knowledge

  • Ability to interpret financial data

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to recognize and manage priorities

  • Must possess effective written and oral communication skills

Management of day-to-day procurement tasks/reporting including: communication with designers/contractors/ vendors/suppliers to deliver on-time and cost-competitive; products, project timelines, milestones, deadlines and documentation of product costs, providing a smooth transition from development into production. Work closely with commodity managers, engineers, and suppliers to reduce the product development cycle while improving the value of purchased components. Communicate project timing to buyers and suppliers. SCOPE Supply chain, procurement and sourcing single point of contact for the support of new product development initiatives for assigned Graco business units/divisions. This position supports our Applied Fluids Technology Division (AFTD) New Product Development in Minneapolis, MN. Products from AFTD are used to dispense high performance coatings and foams used in insulation and industrial coatings (http://bit.ly/1tVXcFx). Essential Duties * Identify and manage the sourcing and procurement resource requirements of multiple New Product design teams. * Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. * Initiate and maintain commodity management engagement – "kick-off meetings" with engineering to drive shorter product development time. * Communicate the need for new suppliers/commodities when necessary to Purchasing Department. * Responsible for coordinating quoting with commodity management using yearly forecast quantities and economic order quantities. * Provide new product update meetings for the Purchasing Department. This meeting will cover markets, timing, forecasted volumes, etc. * Coordinate track and report status of open action items such as engineering requisitions for tooling, prototype, and field test parts. * Input and manage first article database requirements for projects. * Ensure that Oracle ERP system is updated accordingly (costs, quotes, etc.) prior to RFS. * Communicate tooling lead time and status of all parts, tooled or standard, to the engineering project manager. * Responsible for the purchasing portion of Phase Exit reviews, including confirmation of supplier selection and approval, first article completion, and accurate standard costs. * Other duties as assigned by management Position Requirements Education & Experience * BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Management or equivalent. * Minimum of 5+ years purchasing experience with progressive responsibilities and multi-commodity experience. * Minimum 2 years of Project Management experience preferably within New Product Development capacity. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Strong communication and presentation skills to support necessary interaction with suppliers, internal customers, support groups, engineers, and management. * Strong team player skills. * Must be motivated self-starter who can handle problems with minimal supervision. * Must be flexible in commodity assignments and be proficient in managing priorities. * Must have industrial manufacturing experience. * Must be proficient in reading and understanding blueprints, specifications, and tolerances.
