Responsibilities and Expectations:

The Purchasing/CIPS Manager will have responsibility for total supply chain management, Continuous Improvement Process Solutions, and warehouse management for the Chicago Service Center. Responsibilities may include:

  • Actively seek and qualify new suppliers.

  • Negotiate and maintain all strategic vendor relationships.

  • Directly solicit competitive RFQs for new materials.

  • Develop and set yearly cost reduction goals and strategic plans to attain targets.

  • Maintain supplier metrics - on-time shipments, NCR's & warranty.

  • Conduct vendor audits and prequalification visits.

  • Work with warehouse personnel to ensure best practices are in place for inventory control.

  • Order parts for jobs promptly, as advised by service center departments.

  • Collaborate with technicians to ensure the proper products and parts are ordered.

  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.

  • Resolve or assist in resolving all price and/or ordering discrepancies relative to purchased materials, incoming shipments, and outside invoices.

  • Continually look for ways to improve the efficiency of the supply chain.

  • Be professional especially when representing the company during phone or personal contact with outside vendors, customers or service providers, etc.

  • Participate and direct Continuous Improvement Process Solutions.

  • Work with personnel to reduce the number of material shortages.

  • Work with suppliers and Buyers to expedite past-due materials.

  • Work with quality and process improvement teams on efficiency and process improvements.

  • Embrace lean manufacturing concepts and identify waste and methods to streamline the materials management process.

  • Utilize ERP to maximize supply chain efficiency by reducing the number of unique purchase line items through a combination of master planning and inventory.

  • Travel to customer sites and projects as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.)

  • Keep the work area clean and organized.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • BS or BA degree preferred.

  • 5-7 years' supply chain experience and 3-4 years purchasing management experience preferred in a manufacturing environment.

  • A background in lean manufacturing is preferred.

  • Strong computer skills required.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow standardized work procedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Strong and professional customer focus.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
