Overview & Responsibilities

Job Description

Supervise and administer all Service Parts group buying and clerical functions within the department. Provide secondary level of management to more closely control all personnel to obtain best possible results. Administer Company and Purchasing policies and supervise procurement of all material and services at most advantageous price with required quality at required time.

BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Bachelor degree or proven management skills.

  • Minimum of 5 years buying experience.

  • The individual must have an excellent general background in all phases of purchasing.

  • Must have an excellent knowledge of Company purchasing policies and procedure,

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisory skills and be a proven leader.

Specific Job Responsibilities/Competencies

  • Directs activities of section through immediate staff personnel. Trains, develops, appraises, and helps select personnel.

  • Recommends salary actions, promotions, transfers, and terminations.

  • Directs activities related to the on-time delivery of quality materials at optimum price.

  • Develops procedures, monitors, controls, and improves supplier activities in the areas of delivery, quality, and cost.

  • Assures that purchases are in accordance with Company policy.

  • Develops and administers Cost Improvement Program within Service Parts group.

  • Administers budget within section.

  • Evaluates recommendations of buying personnel in regard to new sources of material supply in line with departmental objectives.

  • Supervises the negotiations or assists in the negotiation of price, quality, and delivery on a fair and reasonable basis.

  • Assists in the planning, implementation, and administration of automatic systems within the department.

  • Administers established Company and department programs within sections.

  • Operates within the Union contract and maintains good employee relations.

  • Visits supplier plants as necessary.

  • Attends seminars and training sessions as required.

  • Prepares reports as required.

  • Uses good value concepts and works with all departments to obtain maximum benefits.

  • Practices principles of ethical purchasing.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and recommend changes on drawings.

  • Approves price change forms and invoices in accordance with Purchasing policy.

  • Works in accordance with plant rules.

  • Works in a safe manner.

  • Interviews supplier representatives as necessary.
