This position is a combined role for a respiratory therapist working in an outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation role and an inpatient Respiratory Therapist role.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a supervised program that includes exercise training, health education, and breathing techniques for people who have certain lung conditions or lung problems due to other conditions.
This position includes a two day per week day-shift role working with an outpatient Pulmonary Rehab program; and one 8-hour shift per week (day or evening) providing inpatient respiratory therapy at M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center. Therapists at M Health Fairview Lakes are part of an interdisciplinary team that provides a comprehensive continuum of specialty care in the community. Integrated across the M Health Fairview system, Rehab and Respiratory Services supports professional growth with internal continuing education and opportunities to network across locations.
In collaboration with patients and families, the Pulmonary Rehab Therapist is responsible for providing safe and effective delivery of patient care within scope of practice. This includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis, planning, intervention and establishing outcomes.
The Pulmonary Rehab Therapist is responsible to:
Partner with the patient and family while performing the Evaluation/Re-evaluation
Develop an individualized plan of care through collaboration with the patient and family
Partner with patients and families to provide skilled intervention
Document in accordance with professional standards
Meet professional expectations inclusive of effective time management, direction of team members/students and professional development
Participate in system quality improvement initiatives
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services as prescribed by a physician. The therapist follows defined treatment protocols according to department policies; and collects, assesses, interprets and intervenes as appropriate in the care of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible to:
Assess patient needs and identify expected outcomes
Implement respiratory interventions based on plan of care
Evaluate care and the patient's response to interventions/outcomes
Deliver care as delegated by physician/authorized practitioner to assigned patients
Operate and maintain all respiratory equipment
Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); new graduates must complete RRT within one year of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Employees working at Lakes, Northland, Ridges and UMMCH (Masonic) must obtain and maintain the below:
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 6 months of hire
Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire
