Overview
Responsible for Pulmonary Rehab program and staffing. Responsible for scheduling, training and evaluating all Pulmonary Rehab staff. Assists leader in the hiring process of Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab personnel. Monitors adherence of staff to daily assignments. Evaluates and implements programs with director's approval that will benefit and educate patients. Provides exercise planning, counseling and monitoring to patients.
Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for Pulmonary Rehab program and personnel consistent with industry standards and the policies of the DCH Health System. Responsible for establishing and maintaining billing procedures. Coordinates consults necessary for program. Provides exercise planning, counseling and monitoring to patients. Responsible for scheduling pulmonary rehab sessions. Directly responsible for supervision of all Pulmonary Rehab staff and directs daily assignments to ensure that all patients receive professional customer focused service if applicable. Demonstrates and establishes an atmosphere of excellent customer service. Assists Cardiac Rehab Coordinator with arranging for the maintenance of equipment. Assists with evaluating and recommending new equipment. Responsible for Pulmonary Rehab staff development. Promotes benefits of Pulmonary Rehab with local physicians and the community. Assists with preparation of Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab budget. Assists Cardiac Rehab Coordinator with monthly budget and statistical reports. Responsible for assisting with the purchase of equipment and supplies for Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab. Cross-trains to Cardiac Rehab and is able to fill in where needed Monitors hospital respiratory related readmissions and tracks pulmonary rehab readmission rates Collects data as required by the registry as well as departmental improvement/quality initiatives. Develops/updates standard work and job duty aids Responsible for maintaining AACVPR Certification Responsible for staying abreast AACVPR best practice. Patient care Procedures include:

Perform patient monitoring and assessment including:
Vital signs (Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation)
Auscultation as appropriate
Cardiac Arrhythmia recognition
Electrical Cardiograph monitoring and simple interpretation
Physical assessment
Rated Perceived Exertion (RPE)
Rate Perceived Dyspnea (RPD)
Other as needed

Diet/Weight management
Exercise
Mental Health (anxiety, depression)
Smoking cessation
Cardiac/Pulmonary Health
Controlled breathing
Disease specific
Energy Conservation
Advocate for and participant in patient safety Perform Low Level Disinfection as per manufacturer's recommendation (IFU) Performs and accurately records technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and within scope of policy
Supervisor

Performs compliance requirements
Manages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals.

Qualifications
Current Alabama licensure. Active credentials associated with specific area of expertise as follows:
Five years' experience in the Respiratory Care field. Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy required, Bachelor's degree preferred BLS and ACLS provider Membership in appropriate professional organization (i.e. American Association for Respiratory Care, Alabama Society for Respiratory Care) is required. Two years' experience in exercise planning, supervision and counseling with pulmonary rehabilitation patients preferred Completion of Pulmonary Disease Educator Course within 6 months of starting Preferred qualifications: Certification, experience and training as specified for Program Director by the ACSM. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
