The purpose of the class is to maintain all aspects of plumbing in all City-owned buildings including routine maintenance and installation of plumbing fixtures and related components. The class works under general supervision according to the set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of full-time equivalent practical experience in the plumbing trade
Required to obtain Backflow Certification when the applicant meets the requirements of practical experience and vocational training with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
Required to obtain a Virginia Journeyman plumber's license when the applicant meets the requirements of practical experience and vocational training with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
The incumbent is subject to call-out and may be required to carry an electronic signaling device, which enables him/her to respond to emergencies.
The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
