Pay

This position is a non exempt position at pay grade 108.

Attendance

Rotating 40-hour work week, 24-hour shifts, 7 days a week. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Public Works technician III in Channel maintenance are responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the stormwater infrastructure and drainage system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment and follow all city policies. Perform daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles

  • Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide. Direct traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades. Set up message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, III barricade during normal and emergency operations

  • Repair and maintain drainage right-of-way; Perform storm water main, line, and service pipe installations. Grading and excavating of earthen ditches, cleaning concrete lined ditches, transportation of rubble and debris from ditches. Operate Gradall, Skid Steer, front loader, and/or other vehicles

  • Perform various routine, semi-skilled construction and maintenance as needed

  • Respond to after hours and weekends emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example; Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency. All employees will work on-call duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses

  • Perform with a professional mindset and able to lead a team, if necessary

  • Able to communicate with internal and external customers

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma/ GED

  • Minimum of (4) four years of experience

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

  • Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (acquire within 6 months) Certification in Confine Space (acquire within 6 months)

  • Certification in Trenching and Shoring (acquire within 6 months) City Leadership Program (acquire within a year)

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
