This position is an hourly position at pay grade 103.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday

  • Thursday, 7:00 am

  • 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Public Works Technician I - Concrete is responsible for performing skilled work in carpentry and maintenance of City streets with curbs and gutters, sidewalks, repairing or resetting concrete drainage infrastructure, maintaining and repairing bridge guardrail and crash cushion, and operating various street maintenance light equipment in an effort to meet the yearly goal of street maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various street construction/maintenance equipment and various other equipment in the process of repairing and maintaining streets

  • Work closely with Public Works Tech's II and III

  • Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide

  • Direct traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel, and barricades

  • Setup message boards, water barriers, Type I, II, and III barricades during normal and emergency operations

  • Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment such as checking fluid levels, greasing units, doing daily trip inspections, and reporting any defects or repairs as needed

  • Operate various equipment to excavate old existing curbs and gutters and other street components

  • Perform labor type duties as needed to assist crew with job tasks such as sweeping, shoveling and raking hot mix, traffic control duties, etc

  • Required to perform upkeep on the Street Operation yard by mowing grass, weed eating, and sweeping curbs and gutters

  • All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED

  • No experience required

  • Class B CDL is preferred

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Certifications and Licenses

  • Certification in Traffic Control and Flagging required within six (6) months of hire

  • Certification in Confined Spaces required within six (6) months of hire

  • Certification in Trenching and Shoring required within six (6) months of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
