Public Works Superintendent

This position is responsible for managing operations within Public Works to include snow plowing, street maintenance, street signs, water/sewer maintenance and maintenance of department equipment.  This position will also supervise ten Public Works Workers and one Lead Public Works Worker.

A recruitment profile can be seen here.Oversee street and snowplow operations including monitoring weather conditions for call out, street maintenance, street sign maintenance, tree trimming/removal, and sidewalk and curb repair/replacement. Handling all customer complaints and issues.

Oversee water division operations including installation, maintenance and/or repair of hydrants, wells, water mains, and water meters. All water sampling including scheduled samples for the Minnesota Department of Health. Water meter installation, inspection, repairing and reading. Knowledge/trouble shooting of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Uninterrupted Power Supply systems. Calling Gopher State One Call for normal/emergency locates regarding all city owned utilities.

Responsible for sanitary and storm sewer operations including repair and/or maintenance of sewer mains, sanitary/storm lines, lift stations, manholes, catch basins, water ways and flared ends. Sewer connection inspection.

Research and recommend equipment purchases, monitor state and county requirements, and participate in various committees and attend meetings as required.

Prepare and monitor budgets, prepare reports related to Street and Utilities division(s), and advise Director of issues affecting the department and/or divisions.

Supervise employees including evaluating and managing performance and resolving employee issues, participating in the hiring and selection process, and staff call outs.  Enforcing City and department policies and all Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.

Responsible for street light maintenance coordinating street light repair, contacting the county for traffic signals.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Training and Experience

High school diploma plus additional specialized or technical training in heavy equipment operation and water, sewer, and street maintenance and repair, and 5 years of progressively responsible water, sewer, and street maintenance supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties listed above.

Licensing Requirements

•         Class B water license

•         Class SB wastewater

•         Class B commercial driver's license with Air Brake Endorsement
