DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains time and attendance via KRONOS system. Monitors work assignments for accuracy and adherence to pertinent legal, technical, contractual, and procedural guidelines.

Gives technical or procedural advice to personnel concerning special or unique problems. Compiles reports and maintains records of services rendered, work performed, and procedures completed. Maintains files on maintenance matters and reports compliance with/or progress toward the Service Line and/or Branch performance measures.

Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Coordinates activities within section, other sections and Service Lines of the department and cooperates with interested agencies or committees. Maintains current knowledge of technological advances, changes in statutes and impact of long?range planning objectives.

Analyzes methods and operations and recommends improvements. Assist maintenance manager with annual operating budget. Makes recommendations for capital facilities.

Ensures that personnel receive appropriate safety training and supplies. Completes performance appraisals, recommends disciplinary and/or performance counseling as appropriate. Ensures consistent application of personnel policies and procedures. Other duties may include preparing daily routes for repair teams, making field investigations, scheduling equipment maintenance, ordering of material and filing returned parts, tools, and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May require working in all types of weather and dusty, noisy environments. Some physical exertion such as climbing ladders and lifting objects up to 40 pounds. The pounds individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Five (5) years of Maintenance and/or Restoration experience.

MINIMUMLICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to candidates with 5 or more years of knowledge and/or experience in water utility operations, asset management, and operating moderately complex equipment in utility easements.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience supervising employees.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience and demonstrated skills in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel & Outlook), Geographic Information Science/Geographic Information Management System (GIS/GIMS), and IPS (INFOR) or similar work order management software.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Water Distribution B or Water license or the ability to acquire a license within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion.

  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
