The Public Works Field Supervisor works under the general direction of the Traffic Operations Division Manager. This position is responsible for assisting the Division Manager in directing day-to-day operations and identifying and scheduling assignments and projects and supervising field personnel. Responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of City street lights and signs.
Requires IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 Certification or Street Lighting Level 1 Certification or an appropriate certification through UDOT University within a year of hire date.
Considerable experience as an electrician. Journeyman Electrician or Lineman is preferred.
Considerable knowledge of construction practices applied in street light construction projects.
Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) with respect to traffic signs and traffic control.
Knowledge of emergency operations and required to be certified in Incident Command, ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within one year.
Knowledge of contract documents, construction practices, and materials and inspection practices.
Knowledge of government and industry standards and regulations that pertain to the National Electrical Code.
Knowledge of the OSHA safety regulations pertaining to the job.
Ability to interpret legal descriptions, maps, plats, construction plans, and specifications.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to effectively manage personnel.
Skill in interpersonal relations in order to work effectively with division personnel, contractors, and the public.
Skill in the operation of a computer and its various software.
Requires an associate's degree in electronics, robotics, or equivalent related field plus two years of experience in electricity, street lighting, traffic signs, or traffic signal system maintenance. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
Individual starting salary will depend on qualifications, certifications, and experience.
