The Position

Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) is currently recruiting for a full time, Worker Protection and Safety Specialist within the Plant Industry Division. The Agriculturist III position is located in Sparks, Nevada, and is open to all applicants.

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Program Manager, the Worker Protection and Safety Specialist will be responsible for field implementation and enforcement of the Federal Worker Protection Standard (WPS). The position will obtain an Environmental Protection Agency FIFRA inspector credential and perform industry inspections. The position will also collaborate with other NDA programs to provide education and outreach to industry, companies and individuals. Other duties will include collaborating with the NDA Chemistry program to act as a liaison between field operations and laboratory operations.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
