Job Summary
The Department of Public Safety is in search of a part-time 12-hour weekend shift from 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM OR 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM Campus Public Safety Officer.
Essential Functions
Enforce campus regulations, and federal, state, and city statutes
Protect the University's property and persons
Controlling campus traffic
Provide security escort service
Conduct emergency evacuation of the campus, if necessary
Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and currently must be licensed to carry a firearm through the Watchman's Division, St. Louis County Private Security Section. An earned Associate's Degree or equivalent earned credit hours from an accredited institution is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Read, understand, and speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
Experience with traffic control preferred
Ability to work flexible hours
Follow detailed oral and written instructions
Excellent human relations skills
Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards;
Neat and professional appearance
Provide quality customer service
Handle both common and crises at the client site, calmly and efficiently
May be required to use protective devices such as pepper spray or baton
Cognitive and Physical Requirements
Ability to effect forceful detainment of combative and violent subjects
Lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
Able to drive a motor vehicle and golf cart
Able to use visual and hearing acuity
Able to write, type on a computer, and talk on a phone and walkie-talkie
Able to effectively give first aid, especially including Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (certification and training to be provided by the University)
