The position of Public Safety Officer, Leonardtown duties include but are not limited to patrol services, including patrolling buildings, grounds, and parking areas, observation of irregular activities, and ensuring the completion of required reports for accidents, injuries and incidents observed by or reported to the officer. Officers are expected to conduct day-to-day work activities with little to no direct supervision. The Public Safety Officer, Leonardtown reports to the Public Safety Sergeant, Leonardtown, who in turn reports directly to the Lieutenant, La Plata, who in turn reports directly to the Executive Director of Public Safety and Preparedness.
This position may also require travel to other campuses and off-site locations. This position requires some moderate activity, the ability to render assistance to the campus community, and effectively communicate with college leadership.
The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, rotating shifts. Flexibility is required.

High school diploma or equivalency (Associates' degree in criminal justice, public safety or a related field preferred)
Two years of recent experience in law enforcement, security or public safety
Excellent interpersonal skills
Good written communication skills
Sensitivity to and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse college environment
Must be certified in CPR or become certified in CPR within two months of employment and must maintain certification at all times
Must be certified in first aid and the use of Automatic External Defibrillators in an American Red Cross course (or the substantial equivalent thereof) or become certified within two months of employment and must maintain certification at all times
Must possess a valid driver's license and meet all eligibility requirements to drive a college vehicle and be insured under the college's automobile insurance
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
Must be capable of responding to and traveling to any college facility for unexpected events or emergencies that may occur at any time and any day
