Overview

This position is Remote. Candidates must reside in CA.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Public Relations Specialist will manage medical beats; pitch stories & research studies to lay & healthcare trade media, local and national outlets. Write press releases, holding statements, field media requests, prep experts, staff interviews and create talking points. Also will compose and distribute daily e-clips newsletter, as well as assist with monthly ROI media coverage reports by capturing data and analyzing content using media monitoring services. Crisis communications also a shared duty and experience a plus.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of paid experience in public or media relations cultivating relationships with journalists, developing media pitches and writing a wide range of communication tactics.

  • Experience in an academic medical center, university or other health care setting a plus.

  • Writing experience - great pitches, press releases, blogs, articles, holding statements, op-eds required. Pitching and placing healthcare patient stories, research studies and thought leadership content with top tier news outlets, ie national, regional and L.A. local and healthcare trades preferred.

  • Experience with media monitoring services, analytics, ROI media report outs; familiar with and cultivating media contacts preferred.

  • This individual must have solid writing skills, outgoing personality with PR and/or journalism background, preferably in the healthcare space. Pitching clinical and research stories to busy editors and reporters is key so communication skills are paramount.

  • Journalism experience covering health care may be considered in lieu of public/media relations experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Excel), as well familiarity with project management platforms (such as Adobe Workfront) and digital asset management platforms (WebDAM)

  • Expertise in using media analytics platforms such as Cision and familiarity with reporting earned media KPIs

  • Familiarity with posting to news release distribution systems such as Business Wire

  • Experience communicating with news outlet representatives, assignment editors and reporters while cultivating these contacts in the local and national media

  • Strong people and project management skills, the ability to define success criteria, identify project risks, opportunities and core stakeholders and effectively adhere to timelines and changing priorities

  • Ability to work both independently (as a mostly remote team member) and collaboratively with others across Marketing Communications and the health system (from brainstorming and ideation to tactical execution)

  • Excellent writing, editing and grammar skills with superior attention to detail and ability to organize complex information into cohesive communications

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow AP Style

  • Analytical abilities that demonstrate identifying challenges and developing effective resolutions in a fast-paced, strategic marketing organization

Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, English, journalism, marketing or related field.

Pay Scale Information

$58,240.00-$104,832.00

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
