East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Public Relations & Social Media Coordinator! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Public Relations & Social Media Coordinator, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable implementing a comprehensive public relations and marketing program with a focus on writing, social media, media outreach, and videography. You will be an active member of the University Marketing and Communications team and will work closely with the Director to execute and optimize dynamic content in various mediums for the university. Mediums including press releases, web content, and scripts to innovate marketing initiatives for radio, video, website, social media, and advertising. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your public relations experience and technical skills with various social media platforms while developing data driven content to represent the University. To be successful in this role, the person must be highly organized, possess strong communication skills, and have proven experience pivoting tasks.

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Public Relations & Social Media Coordinator. This role does require 5% travel. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Assist with the creation of content, daily posting, and overall management of social media platforms. Maintain social media calendar that thoughtfully balances brand awareness content with promotion of various aspects of campus, academics and student life.

  • Write/generate content/copy for websites and social media platforms. The individual must also determine the best ways to communicate the University's message on different platforms. This includes the creation of social media campaigns and calls to action to drive stakeholders to the University's website.

  • Identify compelling stories of students, alumni, and other campus community members and determine the best tactics for sharing those stories across platforms and audiences.

  • Utilize available social listening tools to assist with the monitoring and, if appropriate, responding to conversations and posts involving the university or any university community members across channels. Assist with answering any private messages received promptly and inform communications team of developing online conversations to evaluate audience sentiment and address specific individual issues or concerns proactively.

  • Maintain campus-wide social media guidelines that are appropriate for a public university.

  • Continually monitor social media trends, particularly in higher education, to lead to the creation of fresh, innovative, and on-point communications.

  • Work with students, academic departments, and other university divisions to produce written and video content for Office of Marketing and Communications initiatives.

  • Coordinate content creation for all social media posts; Be able to produce some creative assets independently, including device-captured videos and photos, simple graphics, written captions, etc.

  • Write press releases and feature stories and manage the department's approval process relative to releases and some publications. Also manage the distribution of press information internally and to regional media audiences. Write scripts for radio, television spots and video production, copy for publications and other materials as needed.

  • Implement and coordinate arrangements and media coverage of selected special events and activities on campus. Includes the planning, oversight of the physical set-up, and logistics of special events.

  • Perform related work as required.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree required in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, social media or related field including visual arts or liberal arts.

  • 1-3+ years of relevant work experience in social media and/or a related field, including public relations or journalism.

  • Experience using social media administration tools including, but not limited to, Facebook Business Manager, Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Analytics. Also, writing for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

  • Clear understanding of audiences, audience segmentation and marketing/communications principles. This includes being able to clearly and effectively communicate with audiences, students, and the community.

  • Demonstrated experience developing content across many different social platforms, including knowledge of current social media best practices and emerging social platforms.

  • Able to think critically and apply critical thinking skills to solve problems independently; make independent decisions that support the needs of the University and its students.

  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Ability to skillfully pivot between work tasks when unplanned events occur that need immediate attention.

  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.

  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
