We are searching for a talented public relations Senior Associate (Senior Account Executive equivalent) to join our dynamic New York office. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow as a communications professional and consumer media relations expert by servicing an influential consumer brand within an expansive, global agency network.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Leading national consumer/lifestyle and regional media relations efforts on behalf a global consumer brand

  • Developing media strategy around key client campaigns, products and initiatives; execute on that strategy to deliver earned media coverage

  • Developing and executing influencer programs and partnerships; building relationships with key influencers

  • Story mining unique pitch angles and compelling narratives that successfully connect the client brand to key consumer and lifestyle media targets

  • Providing support, collaboration and creativity to a dedicated, embedded/remote PR team on all brand initiatives

  • Creating and editing key written materials including media pitches, press releases, fact sheets, key messages, briefing books and more

  • Working closely with H+K team members and key client contacts, ensuring high quality and precision on client deliverables

  • Leading media relations efforts for product launches, corporate initiatives, events, strategic partnerships and more

  • Generating fresh ideas for programs, events and media outreach that parallel our client objectives

What you'll need to get here:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • 3-5 years' experience working in strategic communications and public relations; agency experience a must

  • Strong media relations/media strategy expertise with the ability to effectively identify, pitch and build relationships with journalists to secure earned media coverage

  • A proven rolodex of national consumer and lifestyle media contacts/relationships

  • Track record of success developing and executing influencer programs; ability to build and maintain relationships with key influencers and make recommendations on influencers that align with client objectives

  • Superb writing and editing skills across a variety of platforms with a keen eye for detail and love of the written word

  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work with quality and efficiency

  • Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Positive, go-getter attitude with a love of collaboration and delivering results

POSITION SUMMARY: This position serves as media relations lead for TIAA's Institutional retirement business, including its higher ed, healthcare, and K-12 segments. The Director is responsible for executing robust media relations programs to reach plan sponsors, consultants and other key decision-makers to best position the company's suite of products, services and overall expertise in the industry. In addition, the Director will work closely with media relations partners in B2Cl, Asset Management/Nuveen and Corporate to drive targeted programs through on-campus press channels. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Serve as the media relations lead for the company's B2B Institutional retirement business * Help to create, build and execute press programs in support of the Institutional retirement product and service portfolio, as well as relevant marketing campaigns and thought leadership * Cultivate, maintain and leverage press relationships with key targets, including retirement plan sponsor and consultant trade press, mainstream press, business press and local press outlets, as needed, to reach target markets * Drive targeted programs through on-campus press channels (in partnership with other media relations partners) * Help to position the firm and relevant spokespeople as the leading source for retirement expertise and relevant sector trends with the news media. * Reach current and prospective TIAA clients by garnering earned press coverage in the outlets they read and trust. Utilize social media to amplify traditional press programs, reach target markets and develop relationships with online influencers * Work closely with the larger communications team and key stakeholders within the Institutional retirement business. * Partner closely with the Institutional retirement marketing team to help the company drive consistent messaging across all platforms. * Create the full spectrum of communications materials, including plans, press releases, key messages, Q&A, talking points and spokesperson platform development * Manage strategy and day-to-day activity for dedicated PR agency resources QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications: * 7+ years public relations or communications experience * 3+ years of direct and relevant experience in the financial services industry, having served in either public relations and/or communications roles Desired Qualifications: * BA/BS * Demonstrated understanding of the retirement business, market and competitive landscapes * First-hand experience partnering with and managing PR agency resources * Deep experience and proven track record with traditional press * Experience with and understanding of social media * Experience and comfort functioning as a corporate spokesperson on both proactive topics, as well as issues management * Experience working with and influencing senior leaders and business partners by providing guidance and direction on public relations Equal Employment Opportunity is not just the law, it's our commitment.
