Job Description: for Advertising Purposes

PTC's Corporate Communications team is pursuing a new leader for its Public and Media Relations program for North America.

Your Impact:

This individual will assume day-to-day operations of PTC's Public and Media Relations program, chiefly responsible for cultivating PTC's relationships with local, national, and trade reporters across the U.S., and securing positive media coverage around the topics that are most important to the company. As a priority, the individual in this role will build relationships, pursue coverage, and help drive the brand awareness of PTC as an innovative technology company through earned media in high-circulation mainstream media outlets (e.g. The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, WIRED, Fast Company, etc.).

This individual needs to engage with reports and editors in a thoughtful, responsible, and results-oriented way. All of these interactions will be based on strong, consistent relationships, with a mutual understanding of what is important to the reporter's coverage areas and to PTC. The company will empower this individual with the tools and resources required to build relationships that require cultivation and return on investment over the long-term.

The media landscape has changed dramatically over the last few years. This individual will need to have followed and operated through those changes - embracing social media and other digital channels to build relationships with reporters, creating new forms of content to accompany pitches, and building out thoughtful narratives and story ideas that extend beyond just PTC in a very modern way.

This individual will need to demonstrate an approach that brings internal and external teams together to address media relations in a collaborative fashion. This collaborative spirit will draw upon PTC executive and subject matter expert perspectives, customer voices, partner contributions, and even the views of industry analysts. This should result in more thoughtful and expansive narratives that put PTC in the context of what's happening in its markets in a compelling way.

If you are someone who enjoys the art of relationship building, excites in the pitch and pursuit, and revels in landing "the big hit" that can move markets and drive brands, we would love to hear from you.

Your day to day:

  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of PTC's corporate priorities, business units, market strategies, and product portfolio

  • Building and maintaining strong, consistent relationships with the reporters and editors most relevant to PTC's success

  • Leading all proactive and reactive engagement with reporters and editors, including sharing PTC news and addressing interview requests

  • Facilitating all media interviews and related engagements

  • Staying up to date on reporter and editor coverage areas and editorial calendars, to better position PTC for coverage opportunities

  • Managing reporter and editor engagement and agendas at PTC events and relevant industry events

  • Managing the day-by-day direction of PTC's public relations agency of record

  • Measuring results and working with the Senior Director of Corporate Communications to modernize the Public Relations program's KPIs and measurement tools

Preferred Skills:

  • 3-5 years of supporting or managing a public relations program or a corporate communications program

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Notable interpersonal skills, with a demonstrable history of forming strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Proven ability to earn the trust, respect, and attention of senior executives, including C-suite leadership

  • A self-starting, proactive approach that accomplishes things, sometimes, by nothing other than sheer force of will

  • An established comfort with being in the spotlight and being the lead voice in meetings, during presentations, at events, etc.

  • A proven history of effectively using social media - Twitter in particular - to connect with and engage reporters and editors

  • Experience using public relations measurement tools, including Cision and Hootsuite

  • Experience in the industrial or enterprise technology space is preferred but not required

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3 years supporting or managing a public relations program or a corporate communications program

  • Bachelor Degree
