About the RoleWe are looking for a Public Relations Manager to play a pivotal role in a fast-paced and growing communications team. The PR Manager will serve as an integral member of the team and will help grow the PR program across thought leadership, customer success, and technical innovation. The ideal candidate will be at ease collaborating with business partners across a hyper-growth company to propel awareness of Confluent that honors our customers, recognizes our community, and bolsters our leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Director of Communications to execute PR plans that raise awareness for Confluent

  • Manage the day-to-day PR program, including industry thought leadership, product launches and customer success

  • Partner with internal stakeholders including customer marketing, executive leadership, engineering and product marketing

  • Build thought leadership that serves as the North Star for an industry in tremendous growth

  • Deeply understand the evolving media landscape and develop effective communication strategies

  • Write, develop and edit content, including press releases, blogs, bylines and social content

Help manage day-to-day program activities with an external PR agency

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in enterprise technology, ideally with a mix of agency and in-house experience

  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories from complex technical concepts

  • Excellent strategic thinking, writing, communications, and analytical skills

  • Candidate needs to be creative, hard working, thoughtful, and able to work in a fast paced environment

  • Proven frameworks for measuring and monitoring progress/efficacy of communications programs

  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally

Shift coverage is needed on day, swing, and overnight shifts. This position is only open to candidates with one or more year(s) of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the previous five (5) years. Per Diem Public Safety Dispatchers must commit to working a minimum of one (1) shift per month. The Palo Alto Communications Center provides Police, Fire, and Medical dispatch services for the cities of Palo Alto and Stanford, California. PA Communications also provides dispatch services for Palo Alto Utilities, which owns and operates its own gas, electric, water, sewer, refuse, storm drain, and dark fiber Internet services. Finally, the center provides dispatch for Palo Alto Animal Services, serving the communities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills. Our Communications Center is an exciting, diverse and customer-service focused environment. It is the 3rd busiest dispatch center in Santa Clara County. Purpose of Classification: Under general supervision, the part-time Public Safety Dispatcher dispatches emergency and non-emergency equipment and personnel in response to calls for service including Police, Fire, Ambulance, Utilities, Public Works, and Animal Control services; provides information to the public; provides information to user agencies. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a part-time classification of the Public Safety Dispatcher series and receives general direction from the Lead Public Safety Dispatcher. This position performs the full range of dispatch duties with a high degree of independence. Incumbents receive requests for assistance; evaluate criticality and type of response needed; dispatch personnel to assist with the reported situation; monitor the situation for changes and safety of personnel for the duration of the response. Work is often performed under pressure. This class is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher II journey level classification by its part-time non-benefited status. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES: This is the journey level classification of the Public Safety Dispatcher series and performs the full range of dispatch duties with a high degree of independence. Incumbents receive requests for assistance; evaluate criticality and type of response needed; dispatch personnel to assist with the reported situation; monitor the situation for changes and safety of personnel for the duration of the response. Work is often performed under pressure. This class is distinguished from Public Safety Dispatcher. Related Functions: * Prepare special reports as may be required assigned. * Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * High School graduate or GED * Ability to type 35 words per minute into a computer terminal * Ability to clearly read, write, and spell in English * Ability to project in a clear and distinct speaking voice * Ability to distinguish and interpret different colors on computer monitors * Dispatching experience comprised of one year or more of law enforcement or fire dispatch in the previous five (5) years * Possession of CA POST Public Safety Dispatcher's Basic Course Certificate * Experience with CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) * Experience with Emergency Medical Dispatch and an EMD certificate from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch preferred * Commitment to work a minimum of one (1) shift per month Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Considerable knowledge of functions of law enforcement, fire, paramedical care and other emergency services. * Knowledge of terminology used in emergency radio and telephone communications. * Knowledge of basic record keeping principles and practices.. * Ability to maintain good working relationships in servicing all levels of City government and user agencies. * Ability to successfully work within the City's philosophy of customer service. * Ability to work under pressure in response to emergency situations. * Good interpersonal communications and public contact skills. * Ability to read and interpret conventional and automated maps. * Ability to work rotating shift/hours, including nights, holidays and weekends. * Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Department of Transportation anti-drug program. * Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned dispatch equipment. * Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.. * Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
