Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, mass communications, marketing, or related field; two to three years of experience writing speeches and remarks for an organization is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. This position requires excellent speech writing skills and the ability to write clear, publication-ready copy and produce high-quality presentations; the ability to write in a conversational tone and to adapt content and manage versions based on the presenter, audience and the event; must have an excellent grasp of grammar and AP style; experience applying the best practices of speech writing; must be flexible and comfortable working with frequently changing timetables and short deadlines; possess a working knowledge of the communications and public relations profession; have an understanding of local government; must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Duties:Chesterfield County's Department of Communications and Media is seeking a creative and experienced writer with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced team environment. Must be deadline oriented with excellent customer service skills.
Responsibilities include writing, extensive editing using Associated Press Style, and developing a variety of written materials to promote government programs and services. This position will be responsible for writing and developing remarks and speeches, resolutions, news releases, award entries, internal communications copy, backgrounders, online content, feature stories, and reports and presentations. This position is responsible for researching, fact-checking and writing accurate and technically correct written copy for county leaders and staff, serving primarily as a speech writer. Perform other work as required.
