Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Responsible for improving and expanding all external communications developed within the Law School and working with the Dean to develop a strategic communications plan for the Law School.

  • *Plan and co-ordinate outreach programs for the Law School locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • *Publicizes the Law School's certificate programs in Environmental Law, Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law, International Law, Pacific Asian Studies, as well as communications about the innovations and offerings at the William S. Richardson School of Law (WSRSL).

  • *Serve as the web editor and point person for the WSRSL website.

  • *Design and create communications for the publicity and promotion of events such as but are not limited to, scholarly receptions, anniversary events, alumni events, enrollment management, academic and student events, Bar Association and Jurist-in-Residence programs and events for external and internal audiences.

  • *Maintain and update the design and content of the WSRSL website and other communications and media including, but not limited to, catalogs, photo guides, annual reports, and newsletters.

  • *Design and develop materials, including flyers and facts sheets, as well as other educational and promotional materials for prospective students, internal program promotions, and other strategic law school communications.

  • Maintain address lists for distributing information about WSRSL events and publications.

  • *Perform analyses of analytics and impact of communication on events, and projects to strategically evolve communications strategy.

  • *Resolve matters in accordance with current policies, procedures, and directives.

  • Supervise lower rank personnel, student hires, and volunteers.

  • Advise the Dean and Associate Deans of progress of projects, anticipated problems, and completion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Communications, Journalism, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for journalism, media, communications, public relations; or equivalent education/training or experience.

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of journalism, media, public relations, communications, and content provision for various media and channels, including social media, as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standards and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with journalism, media, public relations, communications, and/or government relations, as it relates to higher education.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communications, journalism, or related field.

  • Prior job-related experience within a law school or professional school.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize video recording software, such Premier Pro and I Movie, and/or relevant technologies.

  • Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to utilize, manage, and monitor social media, such as, but not limited to, Hootsuite, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.

  • Demonstrated computer and technological savvy, including excellence with relevant computer, electronic, and social media systems and platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize photo imaging software, such as Light Room and Photo Shop.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize marketing platforms and email marketing services, such as Mailchimp.
