Responsibilities of the Public Information Director II:

In close coordination with the Chief Resilience Officer and agency leadership, the Office of Resilience Communications Director leads and develops communications and public relations strategy for the office. This includes creation and dissemination of messaging and materials as well as coordination of public relations activities to accomplish agency goals and objectives. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels, and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork.

  • Develops agency communications strategy and ensures all program communications activities align with agency strategy. Participates in regular executive-level decision-making with agency leadership, providing strategic communications counsel. Oversees and executes communications efforts for all agency activities and program areas including management of website and social media and campaigns, creation of informational materials and all deliverables, coordination and support for public engagement activities.

  • Manages all digital media including creating content for and maintenance of agency website and social media pages; creation of content for the newsletter and maintaining newsletter distribution list; creation and management of all photos and videos.

  • Coordinates media relations activities including disseminating press releases, fielding Inquiries, building and maintaining relationships with local and national media outlets.

  • Coordinates executive communications including speeches, presentations, and remarks for agency leadership; writing of executive letters and other correspondence; agency briefing materials; agency accountability report; coordination and fielding of FOIA requests.

  • Develops and maintains agency branding materials including logos, brand guidelines.

  • Oversee and support all aspect of legislative relations including building and maintaining relationships with legislators. monitoring and reviewing relevant legislation and providing informational materials to legislative representation and staff as needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.

  • All applicants are asked to submit a portfolio or relevant work samples.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of journalistic principles, practices, and techniques of disseminating information to the public through news media.

  • Knowledge of digital media practices including website, social media, and digital content creation and management.

  • Knowledge of grammar, composition, and style.

  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in planning, composing, and editing publications.

  • Skill in the layout of informational materials for digital and print use.

  • Ability to conduct interviews and research.

  • Ability to gather, organize and present oral and written information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the media and the general public.

  • Organizes, directs, and coaches communications staff to execute the agency's communications strategy for internal and external audiences.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. but travel and field work will be required in areas where these are some risks and hazards that are known, predictable and controllable.
