KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under limited supervision, uses a basic knowledge of public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges.

  • Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.

  • Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.

  • May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, web-based resources, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.

  • May work with clinical study sites on patient recruitment and data collection standards. Assists with data collection and data analysis.

  • Contributes to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.

  • May assist in designing, developing, and conducting targeted training initiatives.

  • May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

We're looking for a skilled and experienced Public Health Program Associate to join the Center for Infectious Disease Modeling & Analytics and Training Hub (CIDMATH). CIDMATH is one of 13 Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve outbreak response using data, modeling, and advanced analytics for ongoing and future infectious disease threats and public health emergencies. CIDMATH's focus includes developing methods, tools, and integrating existing and novel data streams for infectious disease modeling, coupled with offering state-of-the-art training for the modeling community.

The candidate will be under the mentorship of epidemiology faculty in Dr. Ben Lopman's group. The project will collect and analyze social mixing patterns of Kaiser Permanente Georgia patients and other locations in order to better parameterize infectious disease models, and thus evaluate infectious disease interventions. This position will work with the CIDMATH social mixing study ("ENGAGED") and as a data manager on several other social mixing studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the management of study instruments, participant enrollment, and longitudinal data collection of online-based survey tools

  • Monitor and report out on ongoing data collection progress through recurring descriptive analyses

  • Collaborate with the CIDMATH Data Hub on data management, variable creation, data cleaning, PHI de-identification, and other tasks necessary to move from primary data collection to analytic datasets

  • Be responsible for data management for the GlobalMix and other studies for which data collection is complete

  • Perform data analyses under the supervision of epidemiology faculty

  • Contribute and/or lead in the dissemination of findings e.g. scientific manuscripts, reports, oral presentations, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in Public Health, a master of science degree in Public Health or Health Education, OR a master's degree in Development Practice OR a master's degree in another field and one year of public health experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, or other quantitative public health field

  • Experience programming in R

  • Demonstrated experience working with social mixing data, related to infectious disease transmission

  • Developing protocols for and managing primary data collection and resulting large databases

  • Experience coordinating research activities with a diverse group of institutions and individuals of different training backgrounds

  • Strong organizational skills
