Exponent's Center for Chemical Regulation & Food Safety specializes in high-quality, creative, and practical solutions to problems that affect our clients' ability to conduct business globally. Our experienced staff includes both technical and regulatory consultants who are experienced in dealing with pesticide and non-pesticide products including conventional chemicals, biochemicals, microbials, antimicrobials, consumer products, products of biotechnology, and with foods, food ingredients, and nutrition.

We are currently recruiting for Public Health Nutrition Scientists with industry or academic experience for a position in our Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will utilize their education, experience and skills related to Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Public Health Nutrition Research. The ideal candidate will have practical experience with conducting epidemiological analyses and systematic reviews of relevant literature. The candidate will be able to work independently and as a team member for complex technical and regulatory projects related to food safety and nutrition. Additional responsibilities will include providing technical peer review, supporting interdisciplinary teams on a wide-range of nutrition and food safety-related topics, and establishing a network of contacts for purposes of business development. This position offers significant opportunities for professional growth. The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with demonstrated technical ability.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. with a concentration in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Nutrition, Food Science, or related sciences

  • 1-5 years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous scientific reviews of epidemiological literature and present results effectively

  • Ability to analyze nutrition and food-safety epidemiological data and provide interpretation

  • Experience in statistical and regression tools in analyzing epidemiological data

  • Publication record based on research in a relevant discipline

  • Strategic thinker with strong quantitative skills (statistical analysis, modeling)

  • Intellectual ability and comfort to work with and communicate effectively with non-scientists

  • Strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and statistical software programs (e.g., STATA, SAS)

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments under rigid time constraints

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse colleagues and participate effectively in team projects is essential

The Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) program within PATH focuses on applying effective, innovative approaches to broadening access to and use of key MNCHN interventions that address the most pressing causes of maternal, newborn and child deaths, and poor nutritional status. Our approach includes: an emphasis on community-level action; a focus on improving the quality of existing health services, improving preventive and curative care across the continuum of care from facility to community level; a commitment to reaching underserved communities; a focus on working to understand and address barriers to high-quality care; and mobilization of social and political support to create and sustain an enabling environment for service delivery of key evidence-based interventions. Where appropriate, the MNCHN Program strives to establish public-private partnerships to advance our goals. PATH seeks a Technical Lead of Immunizations to provide technical leadership for an upcoming global U.S. government-funded maternal and child health technical assistance project. The project aims to establish sustained improvements in maternal, newborn, and child health and FP/RH outcomes and make contributions to global technical leadership and policy-dialogue for achievement of MNCH/FP/RH goals. The Immunization Team Lead will provide overall strategic direction and technical leadership in their technical focus area. They will work collaboratively with USAID technical teams and relevant global, regional, and country actors to advance and inform policy dialogue and facilitate the uptake of state of the art technical approaches within country programs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Serve as the overall leader of global immunization activities. * Work closely with USAID and country governments and stakeholders to ensure buy-in and alignment with project goals, activities and outcomes. * Lead, in close partnership with the Project Director and other technical area team leads, development and implementation of the program including supporting components such as workplans, clinical training materials, country engagement plans, project reports and monitoring tools. * Lead or contribute to publications and dissemination as required. Required Experience * Has a clinical or public health graduate degree with at least ten (10) years' experience working internationally in the relevant technical area for the position (Maternal and Newborn, Child, Immunization, or Family Planning and Reproductive Health) * Proven senior expertise in developing and implementing effective partnerships with partners, government entities, and donors. * Knowledge and proven experience in technical leadership, strategy development, and staff oversight. * Demonstrated leadership, management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to liaise effectively with and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including global (WHO, UNICEF, FP2020, Gavi, etc), regional (WAHO, ADB, etc), national, local, public and private partners. * Strong interpersonal and capacity building skills including training, mentoring, and coaching skills".
