We are seeking a Public Health Nurse (Registered Nurse) that is a self-starter, detail-oriented, organized, and punctual team player ready to assist the clinical division. The incumbent will need to be able to perform independently and as a team and abide by all state codes, regulations, HIPPA laws, and play an integral role within the district to support immunization efforts, case management needs, and clinical assessments. The incumbent will need to be able to independently provide professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings.

They will also perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. All nursing staff participate in public health emergencies and community health assessments. The actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code.

This role may also have the ability to supervise support staff. This position is based out of the Hanover Health Department. Some travel may be required within the health district with personal mileage reimbursement or use of an agency vehicle when available. Typical work hours are Monday

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing.

  • Requires BLS certification.

  • Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.

  • Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities

  • Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique

  • Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public

  • Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management

  • May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required

  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

Additional Considerations

Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
