Public Health Nurse - Inspectional Services Department (Public Health)

Duties: Under the supervision of the Director of Inspectional Services and the general supervision of the local board of health, supervise and perform public health nursing services provided under City jurisdiction.

Organize clinic programs, schedule and supervise public health nursing staff, provide skilled nursing services to patients attending public health clinics for programs such as hypertension, diabetes, flu shots, immunizations, cholesterol and cancer screening, tuberculosis testing and follow-up, etc. Receive and investigate reports of communicable disease, make home visits as required, and provide clinical care, testing, and/or information to patients and families. Prepare and maintain appropriate patient records and statistics in accordance with confidentiality standards.

Coordinates and participates in public health clinics or outreach programs targeting specific populations or in response to epidemic outbreaks, interviews and counsels' patients, conducts health screenings and assessments, provides health education presentations to schools and other community groups. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Requires nursing registration in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts after graduation from baccalaureate nurse training program. Candidate must have a valid license as a registered nurse with the Massachusetts Board of Registration.

A BSN and one (1) to three (3) years' experience as a public health nurse supervisor, or a clinical nurse or three (3) to five (5) years of clinical or public health nursing experience, or two (2) years of experience performing equivalent duties. Massachusetts driver's license is required. Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
