As a Public Health Nurse you will work independently and exercise critical nursing judgment. This position ensures the provision of quality nursing care and health education in accordance with best nursing practices.

In this role you will work full time, Monday - Friday with occasional weekend and evening availability required

Job Functions:

  • As a Public Health Nurse you will provide nursing assessment and coordinator of breast and cervical cancer screenings and cardiovascular disease risk screenings for women, comprehensive follow-up for clients receiving diagnostic testing according the program guidelines.

  • In addition you will provide general breast and cervical health education to clients and explain pap test and/or mammogram results as applicable.

  • Along with that you will also provide education and health coaching on prevention and/or management of cardiovascular disease risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.

  • Provides education and health coaching on prevention and/or management of cardiovascular disease risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely entry of screening data for the assigned caseload.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An Illinois license as a Registered Nurse by examination; and

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN); or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education and

  • Have one or more years' experience in direct patient care or public health.

  • Women's health or internal medicine experience preferred.

Additional requirements:

All Health Department staff are required to be up to date on the Covid vaccination series as determined by the CDC, including the latest booster from September 2023 as a term and condition of employment with the Department. In addition, proof of all vaccines are mandatory for employment with the Health Dept., including the flu vaccine.
