Under limited supervision, performs business process analysis and design and provides systems support for a significant component of major/long-term projects or major business system process/application(s) by serving as a liaison between the business end users and applications developers; coordinates and oversees technical aspects of multiple public health databases; may or may not lead other information technology professional staff; performs related work as assigned.

Examples of Work

This position will serve as Coordinator for database systems used statewide by employees, governmental entities, private individuals and medical facilities. This position will collaborate with internal and external partners to maintain efficient operation of these systems.

It will support the functionality, analysis, electronic data submission, and reporting of the systems and identify areas for improvement. Must have the ability to effectively manage database systems, present programmatic information effectively to a wide variety of audiences, fill an internal and external request for information database data, and manage staff successfully. Occasional instate and out of state travel.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Experience in the analysis of business processes and system requirements, and the creation of business process solutions for large-scale business system applications.

PREFERRED: Bachelors in Computer Science, Informatics or related field plus one year experience in database/system coordination and program support.

OTHER: Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide authorized independent transportation.

Examples of Work * Conduct conference calls with LHD staff on a monthly basis. * Provide training for NEDSS use for newly hired LHD surveillance coordinators. * Update guidance documents and investigation protocols for conditions reportable by rules and regulations and distribute to LHD surveillance staff. * Maintain resource library for LHD and DHHS epidemiology staff in NEDSS. * Enter lab reports of reportable diseases sent to DHHS via fax or mail into NEDSS. * Coordinate investigative activities with LHDs striving to maximize timeliness of follow-up with case-patients. * Perform data quality checks and case recordings for foodborne databases to meet deliverables for the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant. * Report all Nebraska foodborne outbreaks to the National Outbreak Response System. * Perform other duties as assigned related to public health surveillance and investigative activities. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: A general qualification guideline would be a Bachelors Degree in Public Health, Statistics, or Health Education and several years of experience in data analysis, statistics, and interpretation of epidemiological data in the relevant disease/health subject area. PREFERRED: Masters of Public Health, Epidemiology, Public Health Administration, or related field. Training in conducting interviews for public health purposes. Experience in data analysis, statistics, and interpretation of epidemiological data. OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: epidemiological practices and procedures for the collection, analysis, evaluation, and validation of health/disease data sets; descriptive statistics, statistical inference, and statistical theory; public health principles and health care delivery systems; trends in risk factors, health/disease related conditions and interventions for foodborne and other health/diseases. Ability to: make presentations, use problem-solving techniques, communicate effectively, evaluate the impact of health/disease initiatives, analyze and interpret epidemiological data sets, use the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) and Microsoft Excel (Office).
