Primary Purpose: This entry-level position will provide an opportunity to learn the Public Affairs and Community Relations field.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide both administrative and analytical support to the Public Affairs team and the Vice President of Public Affairs.Responsibilities:
Maintaining and updating department schedules and tracking documents on a daily basis;Coordinating meeting logistics with third parties and drafting briefing materials; Corresponding with federal, state and local units of government, NGOs and stakeholder organizations as a point-of-contact for scheduling and coordinating general logistics for presentations and meetings;Applying research techniques and analytical methods to formulate background reports and memorandum on issues, policies and units of government from rough drafts or general instruction;Developing, writing and updating public corporate materials including fact sheets, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and social media posts;Providing planning and logistical support for public meetings, open houses, and other events;Serving as a public affairs department representative during regular project calls and meetings;Assisting with state and federal legislative monitoring efforts and analysis;Monitoring traditional media and social media coverage of KM projects and assets;Managing and maintaining the departments contact database system and archives;Entering invoices, check requests and expense reports into accounts payable system;Coordinating travel arrangements for Public Affairs team members;
Bachelors degree in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, and/or other related field;Excellent writing skills required;Excellent organizational skills with a solid orientation to fine details;Be a self-starter with strong time management skills and ability to effectively multi-task;Familiarity with U.S. politics and structures of government (state and federal);Have experience with a variety of computer software including Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Word and Excel;Experience working for a political campaign or elected official desired but not required;Basic graphic design experience or interest advantageous but not required;Position is based in Kinder Morgans Downers Grove, IL office and may require occasional travel.
