EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites.
All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will serve as Public Affairs Specialist. Typical assignments include:
Writing, planning and posting content on the agency's social media accounts and answering questions
Drafting, reviewing, and posting blog posts/articles, as well as post content to the agency websites, as required. Analyzing, and reporting daily conversations happening about the agency in online communities.
Analyzing the effectiveness of content across social and digital communication channels, recommending areas of improvement, and reporting on metrics.
Managing the process of photography requests for FEMA Headquarters to ensure adequate photography support for events.
Conducting quality assurance tests of mobile platforms for new functionality.

You qualify for this position at the GS-09 level (starting salary $56,233) if you possess the following:
One full year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 level, that demonstrates (1) Writing articles and/or social content for a business, agency, or non-profit with regular posting that provided updates on the business, agency, or non-profit activities to inform a target audience at least weekly; and (2) Working with an editorial or development team to create new ideas and refine a final product that was published for a business, agency, or non-profit; and (3) Using a calendar to organize and plan content for future posts or articles/blogs; and (4) Moderating comments in on-line forums and/or responding to stakeholders/customers via email or another digital tool.
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
LL.B. or J.D., if related
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
