The Public Affairs Coordinator maximizes communication between various divisions, the public, the media, and other outside agencies. This position develops strategies for employee and/or public communication, works with various departments, implements efficient communication strategies, and coordinates activities to boost employee morale.

Essential Duties:The Public Affairs Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and timely information to employees, the media, and the public.

  • Facilitating communication through direct contact events, email, meetings, newsletters, website, and social media sites.

  • Developing relationships with employees to enhance communication

  • Editing articles and/or materials generated by other personnel.

  • Coordinating, advising, or assisting with special projects, activities, and communication strategies to encourage and maintain a beneficial work environment and encourage employee and citizen engagement.

  • Coordinating special projects such as video production, telecommunications, photography and web streaming.

  • Managing aspects and content of JEN/Intranet including editing, adding and revising pages and related Intranet features. Contribute to County internet.

  • Representing Jefferson County at meetings of Elected Officials, committees, Directors, other Divisions/Departments and citizens.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree in media communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience with; social media and web management for an organization; video production and editing; and demonstrating editorial and brand standards.

  • Or a combination of education and experience

Employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and motor vehicle report. Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years' experience with; social media and web management for an organization; video production and editing; and demonstrating editorial and brand standards.

  • Experience in a government or non-profit agency.

  • Experience as a Junior Public Relations Specialist, Digital Journalist, or Communications Specialist looking for more responsibility to be a high level individual contributor.

  • Experience with strategizing communications based on data.

  • Experience with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Pro, and Photoshop.
