Description/Duties & Responsibilities

The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) employee to work directly with the City staff to provide residents with a variety of recreational events at the M.A.I.N (Municipal Arts In Newhall). The M.A.I.N. is an 81-seat theater and art gallery located in Downtown Newhall.

This position may work up to 20 hours per week with the flexibility to work a variety of hours/days, including weekends and evenings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handles money, including Ticket sales

  • Assists in organization, set-up, clean-up, and monitoring of the M.A.I.N. including general upkeep of theater and gallery

  • Interacts with patrons in person, via email, and phone

  • Greets customers and answer inquiries for facility reservations

  • Inspects facility debris and unsafe conditions, malfunctioning equipment, keeps all of the walkways and building entrances cleared and safe, and continuously monitors safety of all areas of facility

  • Follows and enforces City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others

  • Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on work assignments to meet required deadlines

  • Communicates effectively with City staff and members of the public

  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Arts and Events Supervisor

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent

  • Two years of event production experience in theater management or a related field

  • Valid Class C California Driver's License is highly desirable

  • Lighting and sound equipment experience is desirable

  • A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide information to customers in a professional, helpful, and quick manner

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, renters, productions and staff

  • Positive, team-oriented, self-motivated, and enthusiastic

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and exhibit good judgement in difficult situations

  • Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and be a creative problem solver

  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to demonstrate a reliable and responsible work ethic, demonstrate patience and have a proactive, can-do attitude

  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective timely manner

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends

  • Knowledge of computer systems; specifically, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to follow proper safety protocol and pay strict attention to safety at all times

  • Ability to life, drag, push files, paper, documents, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, etc.

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.

PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
