The City of the Santa Clarita is seeking a part-time/temporary/seasonal (PTS) candidate to fill a Code Enforcement Aide position working within the Community Preservation Division. This position will be responsible for performing field work enforcing the City's abatement regulations as well as providing documentation related to public right-of-way (sidewalks, streets, alleyways, parkways, and medians) violations to Code Enforcement Officers.

  • Tentative Work Schedule

Monday and Tuesday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Wednesday
8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Twenty (20) Hours Each Week

Schedule May Change Based on Operational Needs*

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Removing unpermitted signage, shopping carts, discarded furniture, debris, and trash from the City's public right-of-way (sidewalks, streets, alleyways, parkways, and medians) areas

  • Investigating possible public right-of-way violations

  • Photographing evidence

  • Performing follow-up investigations

  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records and documentation

Education and Experience:High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent

  • College coursework in Criminology, Administration of Justice, Urban Planning, or related field highly desirable

  • Possession of California Peace Officer Standards and Training Penal Code 832 Certification is highly desirable

  • Possession of California Association of Code Enforcement Officers Basic Training Certification is highly desirable

  • Valid California driver's license and safe driving record required

Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing

  • Reliable and trustworthy

  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills

  • Computer applications involving word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, database, and/or standard report generation

  • Able to effectively diffuse difficult situations

  • Make sound decisions with little direction

  • Work independently and as part of a team

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and members of the public

  • Ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more

Primetime Preschool is a program that serves an average of 320 children per school year providing Kindergarten readiness with a curriculum that develops young learners socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Classes are held Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. during the school year at a variety of locations throughout Santa Clarita. Selected candidates will be added to a substitute teacher's aide pool on an as needed basis to fill in for absent teacher's aides. With a staff of 21, there are many opportunities for substitutes to work on days they are available. Also, upcoming long-term substitute positions will be available. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Work directly with the Preschool Teacher. * Assist in organization, set-up, and clean-up of facility. * Organize, prioritize and follow up on assignments. * Greet customers and answer inquiries regarding program. * Interact with participants and visitors in person and by phone. * Maintain various forms, logs, and reports. * Work with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs. * Attend meetings and training sessions. * Report incidents and accidents. * Follow and enforce City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others. * Effectively address issues and concerns with patrons as they arise. * Maintain cleanliness of facility. * Perform first aid and respond to emergencies. * Supervise and lead children. * Plan, organize, and prepare activities for children. * Knowledge of assigned area. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Act as a role model. * Maintain awareness of children's needs. * Maintain staff/child ratio. * Other duties, as directed by Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Preschool Teacher. Education and Experience:• High school diploma, GED or equivalent; * Competition of college courses and/or Early Childhood Education units (ECE) is highly desirable; * Six (6) months to one (1) year paid or volunteer experience in preschool and/or child care programs. Certificates and Licenses: Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) month of hire, * Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid. Knowledge and Abilities:Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing.
