GENERAL SUMMARY: The PT/OT Technician provides direct or indirect patient care as delegated by a licensed therapist or assistant according to State of Nebraska Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist Practice Act Rules and Regulations and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations. This includes but is not limited to the following duties: escorting, transferring, and ambulating patients as instructed by the supervising therapist/assistant, setting up and performing specific activities as assigned, and interventions that have been documented as instructed and oriented by Bryan therapists. Responsible for tasks necessary for the general management, cleanliness, and organization of the department including a minimal amount of clerical work in a supportive role. Under special circumstances the PT/OT Technician may receive delegation from an RN. # PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Transfers patients to and from the Therapy area and from the cart or wheelchair to the treatment table, exercise mat, or hospital bed per facility policy and procedures; assists with ambulation and exercise of patients, using assistive devices under therapist/assistant direction and following prescribed patient weight bearing precautions. 3. *Assists with patient preparation including application of antiembolic hose, braces, and prostheses after appropriate instruction by therapist or assistant. 4. *Escorts patients; assists with set up of treatment modalities and therapeutic exercise equipment under the therapist/assistant direction; assists patients in accessing/terminating sessions on exercise equipment as delegated by the supervising therapist or assistant. 5. *Assists patients into and out of whirlpools; prepares dressings and assists with dressing changes and wound care under therapist/assistant direction; adheres to current infection control practices. 6. *Prepares patient for treatment using proper positioning and draping prior to equipment use. 7. *Reports patient#s response to treatment and informs supervising therapist/assistant as appropriate. 8. *Communicates and cooperates with all levels of personnel, medical staff, auxiliary and ancillary department personnel. 9. *Provides close observation or one-to-one care, as directed by a licensed professional, to prevent patients from wandering or potential injury. 10. Conducts interventions, per State of Nebraska Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist Act, that have been documented as instructed and oriented by a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech Therapist. 11. *Ensures that linens are changed on treatment tables, hydrocollator units, and other equipment is cleaned as required. 12. Identifies malfunctioning equipment and documents need for repair/maintenance, notifying supervisor as appropriate; restocks supplies and stores departmental equipment. 13. *Maintains clean, orderly and safe work environment. 14. Assists with clerical duties as delegated including filing papers, answering the telephone, scheduling patient appointments, and entering patient charges on the computer. 15. *Maintains patient/family confidentiality in matters relating to care provided. 16. Promptly reports relevant information to therapist/assistant regarding patient, physician, intra- or interdepartmental party concerned. 17. Conducts data entry for quality improvement programs as directed. 18. Relates to patients and families in a manner that reduces anxiety and conveys an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring. 19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. # (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk ##. Knowledge of the practice of designated therapy discipline. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 3. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 5. Ability to apply team concepts and take initiative in working together with inter- and intradepartmental staff members. 6. Ability to cooperate with other caregivers in order to help ensure optimal patient care. 7. Ability to counsel and comfort patients and families regarding procedure performed. 8. Ability to work with patients of various need including acute, subacute, chronic and complex disease processes and those who are dying. 9. Ability to work with patients of diverse cultural socioeconomic backgrounds. 10. Ability to respond promptly to emergent or crisis situations. 11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


High school diploma or equivalency required. Prior clinical technician or aide experience in physical or occupational therapy preferred. # OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: # Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
