The Office of Housing and Residential Life at Pace University's New York City Campus is recruiting a part-time intern and committed to providing a valuable learning experience based on professional competencies. We believe firmly in the collaboration between our department, intern, and strive to provide an ideal internship experience. While we list responsibilities and expectations it is designed to serve as a springboard that is open for discussion to provide an internship experience that fulfills areas of educational growth and development for our intern's personal development plan of what they are ultimately trying to accomplish from an internship experience. The intern will collaborate with a range of university constituents, including (but not limited to) Residential Life, Safety & Security Office, Counseling Center, Student Engagement, Facilities and Campus Planning, Dean for Students, and University Relations.

If living on-campus, the role requires regular evening and weekend hours to participate in a scheduled on-duty rotation to provide 24-hour first level response to crisis and non-crisis issues in the residence halls; crisis response training will be provided.

Position Duties

  • Manage departmental phone and email communications, providing customer service support to students, their families and other clients of the University.

  • Work with student assistants to triage incoming communications and walk-in traffic.

  • Maintain guest registration kiosks, providing on-call support during business hours, and processing guest exception requests.

  • Process facilities related incident reports and connect with campus partners as needed to address student concerns.

  • Provide project support to Housing Operations team as needed, including the housing application processes, summer programs management and campus opening and closing processes.

  • Respond to student concerns, needs, and provide effective support, referrals, and interventions as needed.

  • Co-manage shift scheduling and payroll timecard processing for student assistant staff.

  • Co-facilitate training and workshop sessions for the onboarding and development of student assistant staff.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and protect the confidence of residents and colleagues.

  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Work Hours

Must be available to work 20 hours per week as scheduled during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm) with flexibility to provide additional support during peak times. The optional live-in role requires evening and weekend commitments to provide on-call support on a scheduled duty rotation.

  • Bachelor's degree required. Matriculating graduate student in student affairs program and one academic year experience in Student Affairs (including Resident Assistant positions) or related field preferred.

  • Experience with customer service, student development, training, and crisis management.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English-bilingual skills a plus.

  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft office suite required; ability to learn and work with new systems is necessary.

  • Must be able to perform emergency and evacuation, which require the use of stairs. Must demonstrate excellent decision making and judgement, and will be a positive member of a larger housing staff team.

  • Must be highly committed to student service and development.
