Position Responsibilities:

The head coach is the individual charged with the responsibility for planning, managing, coordinating, and implementing the duties and functions of the womens basketball sports program.

The head coach must work closely with all others involved in the department, college, EPAC, Region 19 and NJCAA in carrying out the mission and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.

This position is expected to adhere to the responsibilities of competitive success, and the academic success of students. The head coach is directly responsible to the Director of Student Life/ Athletics. Adhere to applicable federal, state and institutional policies; administering all aspects of the program including recruiting, promoting, coaching, requisitioning and maintaining equipment and uniforms, and fulfilling other such duties as they arise or as assigned.

Actively recruit student athletes within LCCC and from Luzerne County; responsible for managing all assistant coaches, if applicable, and ensuring adherence to job descriptions; plan and direct athletic skill development for student-athletes. Responsible to teach fundamentals, rules of sport, provide instruction and training necessary to create skills, techniques, and physical conditioning sufficient to enable each participant to compete safely and competently; responsible for reporting team results to the Director of Student Life/ Athletics immediately following each game; responsible for managing the activities of the team in a fair-minded, honest, efficient, and financially responsible manner; responsible for ensuring all coaches, players and Luzerne County Community College representatives treat opposing coaches, officials, students, and colleagues with respect and dignity. Ensure that all players are being respectful and displaying good sportsmanship when representing the college; responsible for being familiar with and advising assistant coaches and student athletes on applicable EPAC, Region 19 and NJCAA policies and procedures; in coordination with the Director of Student Life/Athletics, monitor student athlete academic performance and implement team measures to support their academic performance.

Responsible for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the student-athlete; responsible for working with the Director of Student Life/ Athletics when scheduling use of facilities, and keeping the Director informed of the condition of equipment and facilities. All facilities and environments whether home or away should remain safe for all athletes, coaches and other personnel; attend all team practices and home and away contests, Responsible for traveling with the team during all school related functions in colleges provided transportation; responsible for working with the department to issue, maintain, collect and store uniforms and equipment used with program; maintain regular communication with the Director of Student Life/Athletics during season and off-season regarding practice, game, and travel arrangements, schedule changes, players and other issues that may arise; report all injuries to athletic trainer and Director of Student Life/Athletics immediately; represent the college on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and to exhibit ethical behavior; lead fundraising efforts, in consultation with the Director of Student Life/Athletics to contribute to their teams needs; Identify opportunities for community service and ensuring players and assistant coaches are participating regularly; identify and submit all student-athletes eligible to receive awards through the college, the EPAC and Region 19 in a timely manner; must attend all required EPAC and Region 19 meetings; return all uniforms, equipment and inventory reports within one week of seasons end; other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life/Athletics.
