Athletic Instructor

Hours: Monday and Thursday 9:00 am

  • Noon OR 1:00 - 3:00 pm with opportunity for additional hours based on need and availability

Location: Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center

  • 800 St. Charles Rd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Pay Rate: $10.00-$13.00/hr. depending on qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Facility Manager this person will be responsible for teaching a variety of athletics classes to children from early childhood to teens. Classes include early childhood: parent/tot sports, sports and more, tot T-ball; youth athletic classes including flag football, run for fun, badminton, floor hockey; and a general youth athletic day camp that we have during breaks and days off school (Ackerman Sports and Fun Camp). Duties include following curriculum of skills, drills and game time, maintaining a safe and fun environment, setting up and taking down equipment, and addressing any behavior concerns.

Will promote development and good sportsmanship. This is an at-will position.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school degree or equivalent with previous experience working with children is required. The ideal candidate will be dependable, energetic and have a love of sports.

Significant knowledge of numerous sports is a plus. Previous coaching, teaching or supervisory experience highly desired. Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

Outgoing and friendly personality with effective communication skills to interact with participants, parents and other staff. Proficient computer skills necessary to perform job duties. Become CPR and First Aid certified which will be provided by the GEPD. Must be in good physical condition to demonstrate athletic skills and actively participate with the children.

Facility Manager, the Fitness Attendant is primarily responsible for providing quality customer service and participant safety to members and guests of the fitness center. Duties include monitoring the desk and assisting members and guests as needed, monitoring the fitness floor and equipment to ensure cleanliness, proper equipment use and handling as well as troubleshooting issues, washing/drying/folding towels, enforcing rules and regulations, and responding to injuries. Additional duties include but are not limited to, providing instruction on proper use of equipment and assisting with cleaning and maintaining exercise equipment, free weights area, locker rooms and general fitness area. Perform other duties as assigned. This is an at-will position. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING The ideal candidate will be outgoing, friendly and have a strong interest in health and fitness. Previous experience in a fitness environment highly desired. High School graduate or equivalent is preferred. Requires strong people and customer service skills with the ability to enforce the rules and communicate effectively with members and the public. Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Previous customer service experience preferred. Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to act calmly and efficiently in difficult or emergency situations. The successful candidate must be in good physical condition to walk the floor, be on their feet and assist members with weights and equipment. Must be CPR/AED certified or obtain within 30 days of hire (we provide this training). Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs a plus.
