Job Description:

PT College and Career Advisor

18 hours per week/ 43 weeks

6 hours for summer/9 weeks

Non-benefited, grant-funded MCCC unit position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Adult Learning Center (ALC) of North Shore Community College, based on the Danvers campus, is funded by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide general instruction and College/Career Readiness services to individuals who have not earned a high school diploma. The goal of the program is to provide adults with opportunities to develop the literacy, numeracy and college ready skills necessary to qualify for further education, job training and/or better employment.

The College and Career Advisor of the ALC is responsible for one-on-one and group advising of students in (2) face-to-face HiSET preparation classes, creation of individualized education and career plans, and quarterly student follow-up reporting using the LACES data management system. The Advisor works with students to help overcome barriers to goal achievement in collaboration with internal and external resources, such as designated WIOA partners. The Advisor collaborates with instructors and co-workers to plan and execute workshops on topics including community resources and college and career planning, including an annual employers' panel for student Q&A and mock interviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct 1-on-1 advising and goal setting meetings with each student

  • Provide individual coaching to students experiencing barriers to goal achievement and referral to internal and external resources as needed

  • Assist with schedule and implementation of pre and post MAPT assessments, both remotely and in-person

  • Assist students with successful transition to college, advanced job training, or better employment including accessing financial aid, community and college supports, and resume/interview skills support

  • Co-facilitate monthly new student orientation, including JobQuest and HiSET account registration

  • Run quarterly student follow-up reports using the LACES data management system and record student information in accordance with DESE requirements

  • Collaborate with instructors for ongoing student support and to provide workshops and updated career goals for integration into lesson planning, particularly digital literacy

  • Maintain timely contact and follow up information documentation on progress toward attainment of student goals, including one year after graduation

  • Coordinate neuropsychological testing and HiSET accommodation requests as needed

  • Attend DESE trainings and high-quality professional development as appropriate; complete one annual SMART professional development goal

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, including attendance at semimonthly staff meeting

  • Commit to the relational learning culture at the ALC, including personal and center-wide continuous improvement

  • Commit to culturally responsive advising practices that strengthen students' self-efficacy and confidence in a multicultural world

  • Conduct periodic review of LACES student data though a diversity and equity lens to document any outcome disparities among BIPOC students

  • Update iterative College & Career Development Scope and Sequence

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Coordinator of the Adult Learning Center

Requirements:

  • Master's degree preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the barriers that challenge adult learners.

  • Minimum of two years' experience in counseling adults.

  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.

  • Ability to work flexible day hours in response to program needs.

  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment

Additional Information:

SALARY: $32.00 per hour (DESE ABE grant rate), non-benefited position
