Specific duties include psychological testing and evaluation, and may provide referrals for employee assistance as needed. Collects data about individuals through use of interview, case history, and observational techniques.

Selects and interprets psychological tests designed to assess individual's intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, and interests, applying knowledge of statistical analysis. Evaluates data to identify causes of problem of individuals to determine suitability for assigned duties and advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists. Follows up results of referrals to determine reliability and validity of conclusions and recommendations.

May engage in collaborative research to develop and improve diagnostic techniques. May administer and score psychological tests.

The employee primarily performs work requiring advanced knowledge. The advanced knowledge must be in a field of science or learning; and the advanced knowledge must be customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction. Advanced knowledge is generally used to analyze, interpret and make deductions from varying facts or circumstances.

Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required

This position requires demonstrated ability to diagnose mental and emotional disorders, study medical and social case histories, observe employees in work situations and to select, administer and interpret psychological tests to evaluate and diagnose disorders; knowledge of clinical skills necessary for the management and implementation of the psychological aspects of the Human Reliability Program (HRP) and the designing, directing and coordinating of psychological programs and services.

Education & Relevant Experience

PhD or PsyD from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited institution. One year clinical internship approved by the APA or its equivalent.

A current license as a Clinical Psychologist by the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Must have at least 3 years of post-doctoral clinical experience with a major emphasis in psychological assessment and testing in a clinical or occupational medicine setting. Must be able to obtain Designated Psychologist status as defined in DOE CFR 712.3, and explained in 712.33. Active DOE Q-Clearance preferred but not required.


The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Specific Knowledge and Training Required. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which theyre being hired.

The career level will be determined based upon relevant education and experience of the selected candidate. Internal applicants, if the move is determined to be lateral, will maintain their current career level and pay.

For internal applicants whose career level may be higher than the career level range indicated on the job posting, we will consider the scope of work being performed, in addition to a candidates education and experience, when determining whether a lateral move is warranted.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, the candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.

If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
