POSITION: School Psychologist Intern 2024-2025 School year
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree in School Psychology or a related field from an accredited institution
2. Current State of Montana Class 5 or Class 6 Certification in Psychology or other School Psychologist endorsement recognized by the certification standards
3. Enrolled in a valid internship Educational Preparation Program that leads to a Montana Educator Certification as a School Psychologist
REPORTS TO: Director of the Eastern Yellowstone Special Services
JOB GOAL: This internship/work experience will provide an opportunity to build upon your knowledge, skills, and abilities while working in collaboration/mentorship with a School Psychologist. This internship/work experience will provide opportunities for clinical supervision hours and to gain valuable work experience. This is a professional position with a specialized knowledge regarding social, emotional, cognitive, physical, language, academic and psycho-motor forces in children which affect the learning process. This position provides school psychology services to member districts of the Cooperative. They assist with Evaluation Report Teams in the identification of students with disabilities under the IDEA and Montana Rules and Regulations. Those services include working collaboratively with general education teachers, special education teachers, resource teachers, administrators, students, parents and community agency representatives.
HOURS: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:
Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records and using pertinent software applications.
Knowledge of stages of child development
Ability to schedule activities, meeting, and/or other events, gather, collate, classify and interpret data
Ability to be flexible and work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes
Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups across multiple school districts within the Cooperative boundary lines
Ability to problem solve to analyze issues and create action plans as needed
Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
Travel between multiple school districts that are in the Cooperative boundary lines
Assist in providing comprehensive services to school districts within the Cooperative boundary lines to help students succeed academically, behaviorally, and socially and emotionally.
The School Psychologist Intern provides services to children, parents, teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, other school staff, and community agencies through a variety of special and unique methods
System level or team level problem solving wherein different strengths and needs are identified. Addresses, evaluates, and uses appropriate and consistent research based methods and/or data
Collaborate with teachers in the development and implementation of classroom strategies and interventions designed to facilitate student learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders
Participates in Evaluation Team Meetings as mandated by law, and at other individual and team conferences, including Student Assistance Teams, Pre-Referral Meetings, MTSS/MBI, or similar formatted meetings, etc.
Selects and uses appropriate assessments/evaluation tools to assess and identify students in the areas of cognitive, development, emotional/social, behavioral, etc.
Evaluates referred students through the measures which may include intelligence, academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and/or diagnostic assessments.
Writes reports with accuracy and precision and explains the reports in lay person’s terms to parents/guardians, special education teachers, etc.
May make recommendations to Individual Education Teams
Assists and completes Functional Behavioral Assessments and provides support when needed. Assists with developing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans as needed
Keeps thorough documentation and records and inputs the required information into Evaluation Reports and AIM documents that are required by the Office of Public Instruction
Ability to manage time and responsibilities, adapt to changing work environment, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadline and schedules
Ability to set priorities, work as a team in multiple school districts
May provide counseling to individuals or groups to enhance educational or social performance
Interprets psychological reports, data, and other information to parents and school staff
Attends staff, professional, and other meetings as assigned
Other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Cooperative Management Board
