PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Plans and administers programs designed to meet the diverse psychology needs of all students in order to enhance their educational success. Additionally, this position supervises and assists psychologists as they execute their job responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Special Education certified and non-certified personnel with an emphasis on Psychologists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Provides leadership and consultation to assigned staff regarding the performance of their job duties and responsibilities
Assists in creating and adjusting building assignments for psychologists and psychology support specialists across the district
Coordinates process of recruitment and hiring of psychology department staff and psychology interns
Provides leadership, consultation, and technical assistance to psychologists through individual contacts, small group meetings, staff meetings and written correspondence
Coordinates referrals for psychology consultations where applicable
Provides consultation and technical assistance to teachers, administrators, parents, and the community at large on psychological disorders and related subjects
Encourages the ongoing professional development of psychologists by arranging, approving, and/or providing relevant training opportunities
Recommends budget items to support appropriate programming that aligns with district initiatives
Attends meetings and develops program options for students with special education disabilities within the Rockford Public Schools
Assists in the writing and development of district procedures related to special education and psychology services
Works with outside agencies (i.e., universities, state, federal and local organizations)
Coordinates summer IEP evaluation process
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional Educator License with Psychology Pre K - Age 21 endorsement
Psychology degree from an approved university program
Additional training leading to an administrative endorsement preferred
Understanding of and experience with diversity of cultures and race
Creative, innovative approach to problem solving
Collaborative leadership style
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong organizational, administrative and supervisory skills
Outstanding skills in writing, speaking and listening
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
