About the Job:

To provide and supervise the provision of mental health and evaluation services to residents at the JCCs and detention/intake facilities in order to promote the residents well-being and facilitate rehabilitation as well as reduce the likelihood of recidivism. The psychological evaluation services are provided at DJJ-approved sites throughout the Commonwealth.

The Psychologist Supervisor will: conduct initial and exit screenings and evaluations, coordinate and evaluate assessment services, will participate in on-call rotation, and provide clinical supervision and training.

As a requirement for employment, the chosen candidate for this position must be able to commit to an initial basic skills training, which is a three-week academy held at the Virginia Public Safety Training Center in Hanover, Virginia. The training program will consist of classroom academic instruction, skill-based classes, practical application, and scenario-based sessions. The basic skills training is typically scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to assess levels of clinical competencies and develop such competencies in subordinate clinical staff to ensure best practices. Considerable knowledge of adolescent development and psychopathology as evidenced by an advanced degree in psychology.

Knowledge of psychodiagnostic assessment, psychopathology, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy. Required skills are in the areas of providing clinical supervision, administering and interpreting objective and projective tests, interviewing and psychotherapy techniques and report writing. Also needed are the abilities to utilize good clinical judgment, be well-organized, work independently, and communicate well both orally and in writing. Ability to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team which includes community partners.

Additional Considerations

Licensure as a clinical psychologist.Considerable experience in conducting psychological evaluations and experience in providing psychological services in an institutional setting and with justice-involved youth. Experience providing clinical and administrative supervision is preferred. Prefer additional certification by the Department of Health Professions as a sex offender treatment provider (CSOTP).
