Description of Work
Position is located at Nash Correctional Institution in Nashville, NC, which housing 654 male medium custody inmates. Staff Psychologists provide direct psychological services to inmates, including those with severe and persistent mental illnesses and personality disorders. Such services include psychological assessments, crisis intervention, individual and group psychotherapy and consultations with medical, custody and classification staff about behavioral management strategies for problem inmates. Psychologists may also conduct risk assessments on inmates with a history of violent or sexual crimes. Other responsibilities may include conducting staff training on relevant mental health topics, such as management of the mentally ill and developmentally disabled and management of suicide precautions. Staff Psychologist may have night/weekend on-call responsibilities.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
Demonstrated knowledge and application of psychological principles, theories and procedures.
Documented knowledge in the use and interpretation of techniques used in developmental psychological and/or educational assessment.
Demonstrated knowledge in conducting and applying appropriate therapy (counseling, psychotherapy, or behavioral) to treat mental and/or emotional/or intellectual disabilities, etc.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting diagnostic findings and preparing comprehensive reports.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90-270).
