The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a full-time psychologist (PhD/PsyD) position to support Hartford Healthcare's Tallwood Men's Health's brand-new, state-of-the-art Fairfield, CT location. Tallwood Men's Health provides patient-centered care tailored to the unique needs of men, offering a clinically integrated team of specialists from disciplines including urology, cardiology, behavioral health, endocrinology, sleep medicine, and medical and surgical weight loss to provide "Complete Care for Every Man."

Job Summary

The Tallwood Men's Health psychologist is a core member of the interdisciplinary treatment team whose primary goal is to improve the health of men with a variety of medical conditions, including sexual dysfunction, cancer, obesity, sleep disorders, and heart disease. The psychologist will craft a strong program to support the behavioral health of this population, understanding the unique needs and challenges that men face in accessing behavioral health care, particularly as it relates to sensitive issues like sexual dysfunction, urological disorders, and depression. Additional expectations for this role may include identifying community psychiatric resources, educating other health professionals and members of the community about a wide variety of behavioral health topics, and assisting patients in creating or staying connected with community supports.

Opportunities for research and training (psychiatry residents and fellows, psychology trainees) also exist and are an integral part of the psychologist's role.

A synopsis of duties includes:

  • Providing behavioral health services to adults, including diagnostic assessment and evaluation of treatment needs of medical patients on site, collaboration and consultation with medical providers, conducting brief and evidence-based treatments for behavioral and mental health issues,

  • Effective utilization of screening measures and assessment tools,

  • Data management including tracking symptoms and treatment outcomes,

  • Participating in program development,

  • Developing and implementing psychoeducational materials for use in the medical setting,

  • Participating in team meetings, clinical councils, and grand rounds

  • Independent maintenance of treatment records.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA accredited institution

  • One year APA approved internship in Clinical Psychology

  • Licensed to practice Psychology in the State of Connecticut

  • Training and experience in clinical health psychology, integrated primary care or other medical settings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-directed and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Spanish language proficiency a plus
