We are recruiting Licensed and Licensed-eligible psychologists for our secure facilities (see map below). The position is in the South Carolina Juvenile Justice Programs and Services division.

MISSION:

It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under limited supervision, develops and implements secure facility-based psychological services (evaluation, consultation, and therapeutic) for youth involved with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. In support and absence of facility Clinical Director, provides supervision of evaluation and therapeutic services provided by facility Mental Health Professionals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides evaluation, consultation, and therapeutic services for youth involved with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, which includes but may not be limited to:

Completing evaluations for youth with no prior or outdated evaluations to assess diagnoses and treatment needs to determine the most appropriate placement.

Conducting clinical interviews with youth and family members, record reviews, and consultations with DJJ County Office staff and other agencies involved with the youth.

Administering and interpreting psychological tests and preparing reports to be shared as needed for treatment purposes.

Providing individual and group therapy services.

Provides supervision of evaluation and therapeutic services provided by facility Mental Health Professionals.

Identifies youth with Serious Mental Illness or Intellectual Disability and makes referrals to the appropriate agencies.

Participates in DJJ treatment planning and interagency staffing; consults in cases of youth with special needs (e.g., mental health or developmental issues); consults with DJJ County Office staff regarding problematic issues/cases.

Provides crisis intervention services on a rotating basis with other clinicians, including after-hours on-call services.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in applied psychology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of current psychological theory/practice, psychological evaluation/assessment techniques with children/adolescents/families, and some knowledge of forensic psychological issues in Family Court.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.

Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with youth, families, staff, and other entities.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Agency Preferred Requirements:

A doctoral degree in applied psychology from an APA-approved program in psychology and possession of a current license to practice psychology in the State of South Carolina or license eligibility within two years.

Salary may vary depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates must present documentation of their attainment of a college degree(s) during the interview.

Documentation must be an official or unofficial copy of the college transcript or Letter of Verification of Degree from the Registrar's Office. If the candidate selected for the position provided an unofficial copy, it must be replaced with an official copy on or before the HR processing date.
